So I've spent a couple hours a day the past 3 days outside during my short 2-week college summer before classes start again out side taping, sanding, primering, sanding, and painting all of the window trim on the car. Windshield, rear window, quarter windows (ugh), the removable trim below each door, the metal trim around the top of the doors, and I still need to do the plastic/rubber pieces that extend up from the A-pillar and across the top of the door. Man, what a pain in the ass. But it sure does look great! I have a couple before pictures for now, and I'll have some "nearly done" pictures tonight. The car is currently sitting in the shade, a nest of blue painters tape and newspaper as the top coat sets on a few parts.

So far, I've used...

4 cans of primer
4 cans of gloss black paint
2 GIANT rolls of 3M blue painters tape (the extra wide roll....that's what she said )
400 grit sandpaper
800 grit sandpaper (both wet/dry)
Lastly, and auto sander.

I've done some sanding by hand, some with the auto sander. The front and rear windows are done (rear is drying now), the quarter windows are done (not perfect, but pretty close), the removable trim below the windows is done (both sides), and the paint on the top of the doors is drying as we speak.

Before pictures....

I'll have some more pics up later!

Edit: Oh, I also painted the cowl cover, and cut that HIDEOUS L.E.D. purge off the cowl cover that the last owner installed.

take some pix when your doing it so we can all see your steps, and if your painting on the car or off. I have to do this to pretty much all 3 of my foxes and it would be nice to see how your approaching it.

thanks

Unfortunately, most of the work is already done. I'll have some "after" pics put up tomorrow. I still have to do 2 more panels, and I can try and do some step-by-step pictures for those.

I've pulled the front and rear trim off of a coupe before, and even with the special "tool" required, I broke most of them. I don't know if 5.0 Resto (or someplace) sells them or not, but it would probably be handy to have a few extra.

Oh, and I actually painted the trim on the car. It took some serious taping and a lot of newspaper, but overspray was minimal, and it looks great.
