i was wondering how to get my quickest time possible by using my manual tranny over my friends automatic. Whats the quickest, most efficient way without any damage to the tranny. (I havent raced a stick before and really wanna smoke my friends fox body)

any tips would be great

put the gas pedal to the floor and dont let up.. when you shift pull out of gear and clutch in really fast when shifting into gear.. and dont let off the gas..

you need to learn how to powershift as mentioned above. you should only tap the clutch pedal with the gas floored and speed shift the shifter into the next gear. if you do it right there are no grinds and the car never loses momentum.
this is a great way to gain a tiny bit of time, but you need to be very careful, if you miss a gear you will redline. and it puts alot more stress on the tranny and everything else.. Great if done correctly, learning to do this on your daily driver is a...interesting idea.. Good luck, Oh, and shift at around 5500 RPMs, that shaved about .4 off of my times from when I was taking it to around 5800 before.. :nice:

Find a secluded side road and practice there. First practice your launch 1st to 2nd then when you think you got that down cruise at about 20mph in 2nd and slam 3rd. Keep practicing 2nd to 3rd until you mastered it. Most beginners with manuals screw up 2nd to 3rd, so at every stop light try to shift up to 3rd quickly.

banging the 2-3 shift at around 4000rpms practicing is a good idea to start. that way if you miss (and you will) it'll not hit the rev limiter. this will help get your co-ordination down so you can try it full out. I miss not being able to do that to my car now. Stock I would all day every gear but with the blower I don't want to blow the tranny out of the car just yet. want to keep it in decent shape to sell for money toward a Tremec.

Missing a gear was a problem back in the day when you had nothing to keep the engine from spinning itself to death. If you miss a gear when you're powershifting, no harm is done, you just look like an idiot bouncing off the limiter when you should be in the next gear. :rlaugh:

Like said before: Your right foot doesn't come off the floor until you hit the traps. :nice:

I don't know about practicing that on the street though, hitting the wheels with so much power like that.....you can really break the tires loose powershifting on the street. The only time I do it is at the track with my drag radials on, even with a hard shift lifting off the gas on the street, I spin through about half of second gear. :notnice:

ive got my shifting from second to third pretty good my start is the only thing that im not comfortable with yet so that the main thing im looking to improve on...........any tips???

thanks for the help guys, ive heard of the stock manifolds cracking a lot tho when u are pushing hte car to its limits whats everyones imput on that
If you're talking about the all plastic lower intake manifold cracking, then yes your are correct, they do. It’s never a matter of if, but a question of when. But it happens regardless as to whether you're diving the pi$$ out of it, or like grandma coming home from bingo. That's why when it does happen, Ford replaces it with the newer design with the aluminum crossover. Some people have had luck and gone for years without it happening, while others don't make it through the first year. Regardless, it’s a Ford fix.

But either way, driving habit isn't going to accelerate their demise.

My plastic intake last me for about 3 weeks before cracking, I had so much steam coming out of the engine because of the coolant was all over the place.
-Shifting: try not to press all the clutch pedal, because it doesn't need to be press all the way down to shift into gear. This will certainly net you one or two 10th.
