I bought a PCM several years ago. I was told that it was a "PROTOTYPE EEC IV FOR A SALEEN"

Its been sitting for ages now and I decided to sell it on ebay. As I looked it over... I can see that is indeed a prototype but it doesn't say what for. I payed alot of $ for this thing and I don't even knowwhat it'll fit: first of all it has a total of 104 pins, Ford part number is: PMF7CF-12A650-AA Mazda Part Number: 1PP W/AICE 2E.

It is labeled as a EEC-IV Powertrain control module but it sure isn't going to fit a 94 or 95 as I was told that it would!

Anyone have the ablity to decode these numbers???

ANy help is greatly needed!!

Thanks

Probably going to need someone with access to specific part number info.

Not sure what the leading 'PM' is for, but the rest of the number appears to follow Ford's standard part numbering.

F7 - designates a 1997 year so it was used from 1997 until Ford made another major change.

C - not too sure about. I've seen it designate the Escort/Tracer, but I've also seen it used for a remanufactured part.

F - Electronic Parts Division

12A650 - base number for the PCM.

AA - revision/interchange code.

Since this was a prototype wouldn't looking up the Ford part number just tell you what computer Saleen started with?

Most likely Saleen made some changes to the tune.

The only way I can think of knowing what the computer really is would be to hook it up to an aftermarket reader.
Tweecer
Moates may be the cheapest route.

Decoding the part number would tell you what model car the unit was for. I see no Mustang designators in the part number. It's too new to have been used in a Saleen Ranger, but the inclusion of a Mazda part number leads me to believe that it may have been used in a Focus.

Thanks for all the input and suggestions! I am not really sure why in the world I bought this thing. All I remember is that I was new to the EEC-IV. It said that it was a EEC-IV Sallen mustang prototype and it would make a world of difference by installing it into my car. I think that I paid over 200.00 for this thing and when I finally got around to installing it..... the pin configuration was not even close to the one in my 94 cobra.

I guess a was niave and got scammed. Expensive lesson huh???? LOL

Thanks again.... keep the ideas coming!!!

I actually think it's interesting (good thing we have Saleen, JR and all the smart guys on here to infer what it might fit!).

If you can figure out what car it goes to, you might be able to unload it to someone with that car and recoupe some costs.

Yep... Ebay is your friend... I'm sure there's some rich Saleen owner out there that's been looking high and low for a new EEC after his beer goggled buddy "helped" him out with his tune.

Don't sweat it too much.
I have spent money on useless junk before too. I bet most of us here have.
But - One mans garbage...

I may be the only one here who cares, but I am very curious what the computer was tuned for and how the tune is different from the factory tune.

Do you have anyone local to you who could read it with a tweecer, moates, or other tuner? It would be sweet to archive this .bin file.
It would be interesting to see the direction Saleen wanted to take with their tune.

Yeah... I wish I knew someone who could use it. OR at least know what is for! At least that way I could post it on ebay and find someone who can use it.

If anyone is interested in finding out how it was tuned and programmed... pls let me know. I do NOT have the equipment to read it but I am open to suggestions.

I guess that I could just post it as it is labeled and hopefully someone may be able to decipher that mess of numbers.

By the way.... As I said. I bought this for my 1994 Cobra BUT the pin-out on this "so called" Saleen EEC-IV looks totally different.... any ideas guys?? I can try and figure out how to post pictures if anyone is interested?!?!?!?

I am VERY curious what is the world I have!!!

To double check myself... I checked MY Cobra EEC-IV and it has 60 pins (3 rows of 20) COMPARED to the "Saleen EEC" which has 104 pins (4 rows of 26)

I wanted to post some pics but the files are to large

I would love you some people look at these pics to see what they think. Id love to post them but they are 380k and we have a 78k maximum. If anyone has any ideas... let me know OR I can e-mail them to you directly!

Thanks

If you can't get those files reduced go ahead and email them to me. I sent you a pm.

I will get them down to size.

I have been using Word. The picture editor is pretty easy to use.

Also, though I have not corresponded with them, I wonder if sending pics to Saleen would yield any sorts of results/feedback.

I really wouldnt - I'd have to Google and hunt. I went to Saleen.com but didnt look around much (Dial-up wasnt liking the Flash stuff on the site). They had an email link, which may or may not allow you to get in the door with talkin' to a human. Others will know better.

Good luck.

Thanks.... that is a great idea and probably a good place to start. Curiousity has gotten the best of me. It's to the point now that the money doesn't matter.

Thanks again and have a great day!
