I was using Pennzoil 5W20 in my '01 Cobra as per the wgt. specified by Ford and was occasionally getting a visible cloud of blue smoke at start up. At the last oil change, I switched to 5W30 full synthetic and, guess what--no more blue smoke ever since!
Hmmm, I don't mean to ruin your new finding, but I too switched from 5w-20 to 5w-30 and the puff of blue smoke at start-up is still present every now & then...
not to ruin your fun, but synthetic oil doesnt show when its burned, therefore no blue smoke. my car blows a ton of oil and if i put sythetic in it, it still burns it but you just cant see it

Even with the "puff of blue smoke" present, I couldn't see much, if any, decrease on the ol' dip stick between changes, but the "blue smoke" bothered me just the same so I'm glad to (apparently) be rid of it....
