This is for my Mothers stock V6.

On a full tank of gas, Fuel guage reads full, then empty, then full. SES light came on, so she had the codes pulled. "Poor electrical connection at the fuel level sending unit." There is no problem with flow (yet) and no problem with hesitation or acceleration.

She has had trouble before.

So my Mother calls me today and says that her SES light came on 3 days ago and she had the parts store pull the codes for her.

P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

She drives a '05 v6 vert that is still in factory condition (no modifications at all).
Engine idles fine
Engine temp runs normal
No bucking or hesitating at speed.
No heavy smell of fuel at exhaust or anywhere on fuel system.
Fuel guage in cluster functions normal.

What would cause this problem? Or is it just a fluke??

I told her to bring it by tomorrow and I will clear the code for her. Then have her drive it for a few days to see if the code gets thrown again. That's the only thing I could think of to do.

So is this part of the same problem?

UPDATE

Ford dealership said the 2 codes are related and that it was sulpher build-up on the contacts of the fuel level sending unit. He recomended using Chevron gas with the techron, or adding aftermarket additives to clean them up. His other option was to replace the sending unit board for $40. My mom is opting for the replacement, since the tank is already down and the assembly is out.

Nice service manager is not even going to charge her for the $80 diagnostic, because she told them before they started that the tech at the parts store told her this was the problem (as well as I told her). :nice:

Final Update

Well the techs pulled the rear seat and replaced the faulty units. All is good. Now she knows that if it happens again, she can just buy te part and I can do the swap. :nice:
