Can someone just tell me why the pulleys are hitting when the numbers match up for the year model motor?

Can you be more specific? What are they hitting? Other pullys? Can you post a pic?

i ran into a similar problem a while back. my problem turned out to be the crank pulley.I thought that all 289/302 pulleys from the same year should be the same . They aren't. Different offset and diameters that look right and bolt on but can cause rubbing issues and squealing from belt slippage. .
