Like the title says, I am going to be buying new tires Thursday. I was wondering what kind of tires everyone is running.

My car is a daily driver, and will not see much if any track time for the next two years. I am pretty sure I am going to get the Nitto 555's. I just want to make sure there is not a comparable tire out there for cheaper.

Btw, I searched and could not find a thread with this exact question in it... Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :nice:

The Nitto drag radials are supposed to be alittle harder than the BF's but last longer. Unless you really need tires I would do rear suspension work before I just throw drag radials on. Drag radials do not last very long on the street...

for a cheap tire that supposedly does awesome in the rain and has good clear weather response, Kumho 712's come to mind right away. I plan on making this switch in a about a month, but there a lot of guys on here running Kumho's that swear by them for daily use.

Thats what I have and they have been on the car for a yr now w/ minimal wear and they do grab well in the rain. I did not run the car from Nov to April but in the summer months I did have them I put quite a few miles on them and there still holding up well.

I had the same tires as GTP had. The dunlop sr sport 5000's and now kuhmo ecsta supra 712's. The dunlops lasted awhile and I abused them bad. I haven't had the kuhmos long enough to form an opinion.

I know a lot of peeps running the Kumhos and they are a nice looking tire. I have the Nitto 555 Extremes all the way around and a set of 555R's for the track. Depending what size you get, the prices are reasonable @ DTD.

Thanks for the reply's everyone. I am thinking of getting the Nitto 555 street tires. 94SC50, did you ever run the regular 555's? I hear how these are a great street tire, and can last quite a while if you don't abuse them...

I guess the Kumho 712's will be on my list if discount is out of the 555's. :nice:

As far as milage goes, Ive gone about 20,000 on my nitto 555 extremes and have over half of the tread left. They work great in te reain too. Not to mention I beat the heck out of them. To bad they bit hard enough to make third gear go boom.

Cool thanks everyone... Numbles, you made up my mind... 555's it is. :nice:

I liked bridgstone's potenza line, I ran a cheap set of re910 at about 98$ each. and they rocked. I have a bud that had a 00GT with the 555 street tires and he got in mine with 50% tread left and he was amazed at how well they gripped and held the turns (we switched cars and were driving on some back roads preaty hard for chits and grits). He and I noted that the corner wine on the 555's came on early (a sign the tires were loosing grip) but the re910 didnt make a sound just stuck the turns. One time after a hard rain I left for work and it was still raining a little and I heard some kind of noise over my radio (12 speakers 2- 10 kicker comps), I was like WTF. I turned down the radio and looked over and there was just fountains of water comming out of my wheel well in front, I never once felt the wheel drift/pull/wobble to indicate hydro-plane. Just a loud azz whoooosh from the water. I also cut 1.9 60ft times at the track with an avg. of 2.1 60ft.

I am not bashing the 555 street tire, new they were great, just didnt hold up to well after some use. They were at about 65% tread when we swapped in the back roads.

I run nitto 555's and i have only put maybe 1000miles...but i am hoping to get 30,000-35,000 miles out of these tires my last set i love Firestone Firehawks EZP250's i got 30,000 miles out of them...but they were much nosieier at speeds and didn't hook off the line well but cornered very well....i also had 255/40/17's all the way around now i have 245/45/17 up front and 275/40/17 out back...and they have suprised me a few times around coners where i thought they were going to slide out and they didn't but i dont trust them as much yet.
