pushrod guide plates

ford racing hardened pushrods say they are for use with guide plates. i will be using gt40 heads with the e cam. do i need to use guide plates? so far one person told me yes one told me no. any suggestions, thanks?

Well, that would depend on if you are using an adjustable valve train or not.

If your rockers are self-aligning, you don't need guideplates.

i have not decided if i will be using the stock rockers or getting new ones. can you elaborate on self alligning, i dont know much about rockers. are the stockers self alligning? what about the crane 1.7's from a cobra? thanks

Ped mount rockers have bases that keep them straight. The pushrods will be fine without guide plates if used with ped mount rockers. The reason you use hardened push rods with guide plates is so they dont wear out when they touch the plates.

You will need guide plates if you went with stud mount rockers. But the cobra rockers are ped so youo will be fine.

If you are using any oem Ford iron head, you most likely will be using a ped rocker set up unless someone put one of those conversion kits on the heads.

No guide plates and no hardened pr's are needed.

i siad one person told me yes and one said no . i just needed more info to be sure have you been to a dyno or track with your combo?

Nope, I hardly even stomp on the car. Right now I have it parked and it's been that way for over a month. It has a short and haven't taken it to get fixed, and I really don't want to mess with it since my buddy burnt his computer trying to do the same.

so i can reuse the stock pr's even with a new cam? scratch pr's off the list?

Yes you can. It would be best to go with 1.7s and do it "right" but you don't have to.
