Hello all. Brand new member here and this is my first post. I have been following the new 2005 Mustang GT and have seriously been considering purchasing one (leasing one to be more accurate) but I just wanted to know what to expect.

I have owned (and loved) my Honda Civic for the past five years and lately haven't been able to take my eyes off every Mustang that I see. It's a great looking car, The Civic's a great car, fun, reliable, and cheap, but I was thinking of something different. Aside from the obvious differences (the cars are polar opposites of each other!), is there anything I should know about the new Mustang. Service/reliability issues? Build quality issues? What can I expect? Tuning issues; is it difficult to modify? I've seen a lot of aftermarket support for this car already.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Nothing against the Civic, it is a great reliable little car, but if you go from the Civic to the 05 GT you will LOVE the Mustang...
I have had my 05 since March and have 10kmi on it, without a single problem whatsoever, not one thing to complain about....
Its really hard to say what the long term reliability of these cars will be, since it is a brand new vehicle, but I suspect if it isnt constantly beaten and is serviced regularly throughout its life it will last a long time....
Modifications are fairly easy with this car,it will require a tuner (diablosport or the like...) because the air/fuel mix is sensitive, but the tuner/CAI is a good place to start with this car...they are very very receptive to mods and of course the aftermarket is already loaded with performance mods for the 05. (Wish I could afford more than my JET and SLP exhaust lol).
Good luck with the new ride when you get it, I guarantee you will love it.

I've had mine since mid-April and have about 8,000 miles..no problems other than a little brake squeal when I brake gently from 35-40 mph (haven't taken it in yet), and occasional problems from the infamous Skipper 500. About a month after I got the car, we took it on a 2 week, 4,500 mile road trip from Atlanta to Niagara Falls and Maine and back, and she was solid as a rock. My previous ride was a '94 GT vert which I bought used, and it was reliable too. After 115,000 miles I had to replace 2 power window motors but that was all. Stangs hold up well, just do all the usual maintenance stuff. The Japanese cars are perhaps still a little better overall in terms of reliability, but your odds with a Blue Oval product are better than with other American manufacturers, based on Consumer Reports and my personal experience over the last 20 years.

If you go with the Mustang GT I doubt you'll regret it. I actually enjoy driving my pony more now than I did when it was brand new..it keeps growing on me, which is a first for any vehicle I've ever owned (this one makes #9). It's not perfect, but it's a helluva lot of car for the money IMO. The car just begs to be driven..it puts a smile on my face every time. :)
