Am I the only one who doesn't have these, doesn't know what they are, or what they look like?

I'm just curious..been looking to put some Weld rims on the back with some substantially wider tires.......and on all the tire threads I'm seeing, I'm seeing mention of hitting the quad shocks.. I have 2 shocks, 2 springs....and that's it. And I think the previous owner put on aftermarket LCA's. But that's about it...

So....

Anyone got pics of these 'quads'?

Quad shocks, if you have them (different bracing allows you to remove them), are easy to spot. Get to your rear tire (either side). Look behind it (the side closest to the rear end of the car.

It is a shock at a 30 degree angle (give or take) from the wheel mount are to the chasis. It looks just like any shock would, nothing unique to look for (just smaller).

I don't have pics, but if you can't find it, odds are you don't have it.

Oh, and since you asked "what" it is - it helps keep the rear wheels planted evenly on the ground.

Yup,what he said, take the tire off, they are not positioned up and down. They are more horizontal.I just recently took mine off because I tried some big @ss et-streets.(what a waste that was) and they were rubbing on the shocks.Actually most people on here already have them off.I thought I was the only one with them on!!

I recently tossed mine and I havent had any noticable wheel hop at all. The back end bounces a bit over rough roads but nothing unsettling, just different. I also took the rear sway off and likewise no noticable detriment to performance. I wouldnt worry about quads. Spend your $$$ on some aftermarket control arms and you wont need them anyway (most aftermarket control arms remove the ned for quads)

Ok thanks guys...I don't have them and I was just curious what they looked like. I knew what they were for..... My buddy's LX 4 cyl has the quads taken off and when he spins em...whewee, nothing but wheel hop.

I imagine without the quads too, when the rears start getting weak, you'll start chopping tires....I'm sure the quads help marginally against that.

Crazypete....you mentioned having the REAR swaybar off. I've got my front off and have severe body roll...but I'm building this thing for straight-line, so that's fine by me. And obviously removing the front aids in weight transfer to the ass....but what about removing the rear? Is there any use in doing it, or is that going to make the car further bias towards the right rear?

When I say I have no bodyroll, it's most probably due to:

1. I must have pulled at least 500 pounds of junk off this car, front and rear
2. I have fms c springs. These things are rocks. They'll stop bodyroll all by themselves. They also dont move much so dont expect much in terms of ride quality
3. Moving the battery to the trunk basically offsets whatever weight you pull off the back and puts this new weight ride above the axle centerline at a low point of gravity (spare tire well against the back)

Pulling weight off the back, if that is the only wieght you pull, is disasterous. I feel that I pulled weight off the car more or less proportionally so I did not really enhance the noseheaviness of the car.

The only really meaningful things to pull off the back are spare/jack/rear carpet soundproofing/rear swaybar/quads and mounting/dogbone weight on rear axle/rear seat supports(they sit fine with only the center pivot)/ alum driveshaft(more middle) and little brackets and wires and stuff. You can also pull the tar sound deadening and the rear bumper but only do the bumper if you will never use it on the street. (Man, no one knows how to drive anymore. They're all watching their mintv's and talking on cellphones and playing with electronic climate control or navigation. Useless distractions). A good bumper alternative is to just drill a million holes in the rear bumper. This has the same effect as a lighter bumper but preserves the bumper's original purpose.

Hope this helped!

heh. no quad shocks for me. i have the early high quality "slapper bar". YAY! lol. damn i hate that thing. I think even quad shocks would have to be an improvement. I get no wheel hop though so it must be doing something.

They didn't? Huh...I had always imagined that they did to prevent wheelhop since they were so much lighter...

4 banger cars didnt come with them, nor did they come with the mounting points on the rear axle. if you have aftermarket lower control arms, you dont need them. they control the fore and aft movement of the rear axle, which gets nasty under heavy torque and wheelspin. aftermarket lowers are strong and control the axle, meaning you dont need the quadshocks anymore. i have mine off at the moment and the wheelhop SUCKS

that is correct

I bought new monroe heavy duty quad shocks from Steeda, they are there for a reason, to decrease wheel hop, and I thought you didnt need them until I talked to different suspension companies, they all told me to get them, they arent that much unless you get the bilsteins,

i removed my quad shocks simply because they were shot and noticed no difference in ride quality i only get wheel hop when the road is just slightly damn....where the tires are sorta gettin traction but not at the same time
