Question about fitment

I'm not sure if I'm saying this right, but if your heads were shaved, would you have problems sealing the lower to the heads? I got the car used and I cant understand why the new lower is not sealing to the heads. What is it called when the deck of the heads have been shaved?

i think it the term is "planed". maybe your heads are warped? if the heads somehow got warped, then they are no longer perfectly flat. then you would have vaccuum issues when intalling then on a new lower that is flat. i would say take them to a machine shop and ask them to see if they are warped.

Do I really have to do this or can I check them at home, cause I dont want to take off my heads and go through the trouble of putting them back on if I'm not changing them. Not to mention having to buy all the gaskets. They're stock iron E7's so how would they be warped?

The only way to check too see warped head is by removing them. If you have a straight edge you can check them your self. Heat can warp just about anything iron or or not.

Well since I dont have any cooling problems or smoke out of the tailpipes, that means the block side of the heads is not warped right? That means that I can just use a straight edge on the intake side of the heads to see if they're warped? Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know that much about heads.

As long as the oil is not mixing with the coolant pretty much means the head is sealed to the block properly(not warped). As far why the lower is not sealing to the heads is weird. Are the gasket staying put or are they moving on you when you place the lower down? You can use the straight edge to make sure they are "true" and not warped but I have never heard of that side of the head being warped(here the lower intake sits).

maybe the lower is warped. that could be a possibility. every head from the factory is never perfectly straight. there always a few tho off. but nothing to be worried about. easiest way is to use the straight edge and feeler gauge method

Could it be because it's a professional products lower? I'm not quite sure how the build quality is of these manifolds.

That could be the culprit, I have read some bad things about there intake stuff being not that great. Dunno

oh, a PP intake. ya, i heared a few people having problems with them.

where do you think the intake is leaking from the sides (attaches to the heads) or the front and back (the block)????

if its from the front and back, what are you using? the cork ends or silicon? or both?

you could try staking the lower where it attaches to the block so that the silicon has something better to stick to. just use a puch and put a bunch of pit marks in 2 rows across.

maybe that could be your cause

I think it's from the back, but I'm not sure exactly. I used the rubbery type fel pro's. What do you mean by staking?

sorry about that, staking a ****ty word to use.

use a center punch and dimple about 2 rows all the way across the lower manifold ends where the rubber ends attach to. but this time just use a bead of silicon. this way the silicon has something to stick to.

Ummmm....Rather than trying to crush chitty aluminum, I just bought an edelbrock lower. Maybe this will help my sealing problem.
