question about gas tank

I decided to powdercoat my gas tank tonight. Everything was going just fine....until. I got my UV light over the bottom of the tank....the bottom most part. Its a new tank. FOr some reason, it burnt the bottom of the tank the area about the size of a softball. I moved the light to the middle, coated just fine, moved it to the other side that was the other complete bottom of the tank....and it burnt....in the same spot, on the opposite side of the tank.

Is there something with the construction of the tank in these area that would cause that? I thought that I had the light too close or something, but, being that the tank burned in the same areas on the exact opposite sides leads me to believe that there is something going on with the tank in those areas.

Any ideas?

OK, you confused the **** outta me. But the tanks are made up of 2 stamped steel pieces put together, I would assume they stamp them cold, so it could be thinner in the middle of the bottom panel, but I wouldn't think the top panel would be thinner in the middle.

Question for you; are you using a light instead of an oven to heat the powder coat? If so point me to a website where I can see this light setup.

The only thing I can think of, and you said these area's were lower than the rest, is that maybe there was some sort of residue sitting inside these lower portions of the tank and you baked them and they caused the heat to be more concentrated in these areas. Could have been some oil used in the stamping process or something. Could have been somehting that caused the heat to be reflected and concentrated anyway. And it could be just thinner, like Worth said.

I think it may have been my fault. I put the powder on too thin in those areas and burnt it with the light being too close. Im going to fix it today.
