question about lower control arms

I am looking to replace the rubber bushings in my rear lower control arms with some urathane(spelling) bushings because my stock ones are shot. Question is does anyone have a diagram for some reinforcement plates that I can weld on the bottom of them to box them in...I am a pretty good welder so that doesn't concern me. Reason I would like to do this is money, using stock suspension peices so I can say "stock suspension" when someone asks me at the track, and to be differant.

Its fairly easy to just get some 1/8 steel, make a couple of cardboard templates and cut out the reinforcing plates.

Thats how I did it, then just weld them in. The arms are galvanized, so you have to grind off the galv where you want to weld.

You could recess the plates in the arms or make them fit on the bottom, either works, and they don't have to be precise to have contact to weld.

I even welded some brackets for the rear sway bar so I could put it back on.

i agree,once i tossed a better set of control arms on i have never looked back, plus man your gonna say oh stock suspension car,people are gonna look and see braces and box s hit. save the weight and just buy control arms in my opinion.

Ur better off buying a set of control arms....Day and night difference..u can get a set if summit racing arms fairly cheap

in my opinion, buy nice uppers and lowers because 1)they are stronger 2)have new bushings 3) i still think this is considered a stock suspension car.

i was gonna do the same thing, but by the time i replaced the bushings it already was not worth it.
