The other night I was driving down a city street, and a 4.6 GT comes up beside me, and keeps jumping up a little, then bringing it back even, over and over. After 3-4 times, I slammed second and punched it. To my surprise, up halfway through third when I had to let off, he's still at the back of my passenger door. Well, it just so happens that we're both getting on the highway, but there is a group of cars with us. I get on first with two cars behind me, and then him. I get up to about 65, and start coasting, and he does a ricer flyby at 100+. I get over, and get up to about 80 and finally catch up to him. We back it off to 65, and I hit third. By the time I shifted to fourth I had atleast five cars on him, and just kept pulling until I let off at around 120. By the way there was no traffic while we were doing this. We had made it ahead of all of them. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Not that it should have beatin me, but shouldn't the 4.6 have a better chance of keeping up on the highway? It just seemed weird to me.

What was funny was after I switched highways, and went up a couple miles, I came up on what I thought was another 4.6 about to be destroyed. When I got closer I noticed it was a 98 Cobra, and he sent me home with my tail between my legs.

Your sig says lightly modded..... what do you have? He could have been an auto, or his engine might not be running too stellar. FWIW, the 94/95 GT's were pretty much dead even with the 96/97's, and the 98's having a SLIGHT advantage. But it all comes down to a driver's race really, which brings me to my next point........ he might not have known how to drive, lol.

i agree with chris. the 96-98 4.6's are pretty pathetic, i would say, unless with maybe a s/c. in 99+ they upgraded to the PI heads, so that's why they get better performance. now that 98 cobra is another story... imo, the 96-98 cobras are the only ones worth a damn.

Slow down there turbo!! I didn't say the 96-98's were pathetic. They are actually pretty much even with a comparable (tranny for tranny, body style for body style) 94/95. The 98's actually had 10 more hp than us. They make the same amount of torque, it's just farther up in the rpm band, which makes the 5.0's get off the line a little quicker, which is what most street racing is all about, hence the 96-98's were dubbed "pathetic". That and they don't respond to good to mods like the 5.0's do.

I have a T-5. I couldn't hear his car over mine, so it's possible he could have been an auto. I have a CAI, O/R X-pipe, dumped flows, upgraded clutch, short throw, Blaster coil, 9mm wires, side-gapped plugs. I think that's it. I'll be doing a few more things to it tomorrow . Oh, and I had me (225lbs), and a buddy (275lbs) in the car. The other guy looked pretty scrawny, and was alone. What I didn't understand was how he was right with me from 35-70ish on the first pull, but from 65-120, I totally left him. I thought that their higher torque curve would help them on a highway run. As for the tuning state of his car, the car looked really clean. That's all I could tell you.

You might hace spun from the 35mph roll. That midpipe will really give you an advantage. I went from a 15.2@91mph, to a 14.89@ 95.27mph with an o/r h-pipe and pulleys

Do a search on it. Basically, the way sparkplugs come out of the box, the spark is actually shielded from the fuel by the arm of the plug. You can cut away some of that arm, and it exposes the fuel mixture directly to the spark. It's supposed to pick up a little throttle response, and maybe a pony or two.
