Does it matter if I mount a subwoofer considerably lower than where dead center would be. It's a wedge-shaped box if that matters (sort of like what you would put behind a truck seat, just much bigger). Does it effect the way bass is projected or sound quality? Thanks
No difference. If anything putting the sub directly in the center of the panel increases he chance of the panel resonating and in some instances you get some internal box cancelation that will affect the sound quality.
The only time it would matter is when the enclosure is ported or vented. Being a sealed box it wouldn't make too much of a difference. What kind of sub are you putting in the box, and is it sealed enclosure?

It's a Rockford Fosgate 12" HE2 Punch sub in a sealed box that I built. I just wired my sub yesterday and put it in the box for good. The terminal on the sub is about a centimeter off the bottom of the box when mounted, but there appears to be ample room for just about every other part of the sub. Should be fine.
And then, you'll never hear it. I doubt that you'd ever be able to even measure it in a normal-sized ported enclosure (ultra-large SPL-only not included).
