Question about rear disc swap components

Doing a cobra brake swap on my fox... here's my question...

I'm going to be using the North race brackets to retain my stock axle length..... Do I need the the M-2300-M kit also to install the rear discs? or can I just buy the dust shields and bolts, and the moan braces separately and use them with the north race brackets? Also, are the GT & Cobra moan braces the same or different?

Technically speaking, once you have the north racecar brackets, the calipers and rotors will bolt up. A few on here and other forums have had moaning noise when not using the anti-moan brackets. I would recommend installing them.

The anti-moan brackets are different for V6/GT vs Cobra brake setups as the rotor diameters (caliper mounting positions) are different. In your case, you would need Cobra anti-moan brackets.

Although I haven't looked, I would be willing to bet you could piece together the dust shields and anti-moan brackets for cheaper than the m2300-m. FYI, I think the dust shields are all the same. So any rear disk dust shield should work.

dont even get the 2300 kit, get everything yourself, dust shield and everything else can easily be had everywhere, and as far as the anti moan brackets, im pretty sure the calipers are VERY similar so the gt calipers so the anti-moan brackets should be the same

The anti moan brackets are different between V6/GT and Cobra brake setups. Yes, the calipers are very similar between the two. But, the distance the calipers are mounted from the axle center line are different due to the different rotor diameters. The is why the caliper brackets and anti moan brackets are different btw V6/GT and Cobra brakes.

1. will this ball joint work ok for the front spindles 94-04 Mustang Front Lower Ball Joint at LRS - Same Day Shipping! ???

Or is it easier/better to use washers?

2. How many banjo bolts in total do I need for the entire swap?

If the current ball joints are in good shape, I would just use the washers. Cheaper, easier, faster.

Off the top of my...I think you need five. 1 for each caliper and 1 for the "T" fitting at the rear axle. I can look through some old parts later tonight and let you know.

I went with the M2300-K kit (whole 5 lug conversion) which replaced all of the hardlines on the rear axle. My kit came with the 5 banjo bolts mentioned in my previous post. The T-fitting bolt is fine thread.

Just for clarification, the T-fitting softline is the where the hardline on the unibody connects to the rear axle. The "T" sits on top of the rear axle where hardlines run to each wheel.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the existing hardlines. Just cut, install the right fitting for the new caliper softlines, and re-flare. Just make sure you have a QUALITY double flare tool.

I have adapters specifically made to adapt the existing rear axle hard lines to the new caliper soft lines. Thanks for confirming the banjo bolts, I'll need to order 2 more coarse and 1 fine thread it seems.

If you're leaving the stock hard lines on the rear axle, then there is no need to replace the T fitting softline. So, no need for a 5th banjo bolt. You'll just need one for each caliper.

FYI. The type of banjo bolt needed on the front calipers depends on the type of caliper you use. Depending on the year and type, front calipers used fine or course thread. In my 2300-K kit, I actually had one fine thread and one course thread caliper...lol.

To be honest, i'd buy the 2300-M kit.

It's $190, but you get the rotors, anti-moan braces, caliper brackets, dust shields and hardware. Sell the Cobra-specific axle brackets for $75 or so and now you just paid $120ish for rotors, anti-moans, shields and hardware.

If you peice it out new, you'll spend more money buying everything separate.

Just FYI, the 2300-M is Cobra stuff, so make sure you bought he NRC brackets for a cobra

BTW, a while back i sold a USED set of Cobra anti-moans for $50 + shipping. That's why i suggest just getting the M-2300-M and selling the brackets

Thank you.. and I'm using the 10th Anniversary cobra calipers, got em brand new for 299$ a while back. They use the coarse threads. Best part is I already have 2 coarse thread bolts and the MM front brake line kit I ordered includes 2 so it looks like I'm all set.

As far as the north race brackets go, yes I did get the cobra specific ones. I considered doing exactly what you said regarding the M-2300-M kit but I thought maybe I could piece it together cheaper. I already have the rotors also. Are the antimoan's really necessary? Will I encounter any problems without them, or just increased noise?

It's hit or miss with the antimoans. I think since the rotor is positioned slightly closer to the axle bearing that the brakes have less chance of making noise with the NRC brackets and no anti-moans vs the standard ford setup without them.

But either way, you could prob sell the Cobra rotors and the cobra axle brackets out of the kit and still come out cheaper than purchasing the anti-moans separate...at least new.

The M-2300-M is really a good deal when you consider what you get for less than $200 new.
