On my side mirrors, there are these wide-angle stick-on mirrors that the previous owner had put on. I have tried several times over the years to remove these things but to no avail. Seriously, I hate them. I want them OFF. But I can't get them off. I have tried Goo Gone, Brake parts cleaner etc but nothing seems to budge them. take a look at this pic. The insert mirror looks like that from me trying to pry it off. Any suggestions here?

maybe try a heatgun/hairdryer and then run fishing string behind it? I have seen people de-badge many a car like this.... worth a shot.

Those things are held on by a foam tape. It is nasty stuff. The aforementioned heat gun is probably your best bet. Be careful though, the mirror itself is plastic. You don't want to delaminate it.

After you do that, take the mirror off the door and paint it with Trim Black while you're doing your belt moldings.

Coupe & Hatch side mirrors are cheap.. even in the boneyard. You guys see the price for one lousy new mirror on a vert? Over $100 . Friggin Ridiculous. Maybe I will hit the scrap yard. I'm afraid of displacing the glass from the reflective backing. It's already got black specs inside the glass.. signs the backing is wearing out. Rearview mirrors do this as well. I'm a hit the boneyard out in Labelle and see if they even have a vert sitting out there. I'll try pulling this eyesore off first. I got a heat gun and plenty of razors. Thanks

I'm betting it's going to remove the chrome mirror part with it when you pull it off. You might be better off just changing the mirror part.

Got them off. Thanks for the heat gun and razor blade tip. I used that with some Goof Off and after a few minutes it came off. Wouldn't have worked without the heat gun. Cleaned them up and the glass is still looking good. Didn't pull it away from the silver backing.

Big help

Just fyi...

My 90 ford escort station wagon has side mirrors that bear a striking resemblance to 'vert mirrors...

I think they might be the same.... don't know for sure... but they look very similar.

Adam. If those are the ones I'm thinking of, they wouldn't fit on a vert. The mirror itself may look the same, but the mount at the door is different. The verts have the slim low profile mount while the Escorts have the wide triangular type, like many other vehicles.

Hmm, must've been looking at the wrong ones. I couldn't find any on google that looked like that. I wonder if those would fit. I don't need them, but just good to know, and they might be cheaper. Thanks for the info.

It's a 60 dollar price difference on ebay between the two.
