What exactly is the relationship between MPH, RPM, and Horsepower/Torque?
For example:
Currently I run 80mph in 5th gear at 2350 RPM (3.55 gears) on a stock motor. What happens if I had 100hp to my motor? With 100hp extra, will I still be doing 80mph in 5th gear at 2350 RPMs?
What about during acceleration, like in a race? If I have 100hp more than I do now, would I reach higher speeds in each gear OR just get through the gears faster without a difference in MPH/RPM?
This may seem basic, but I have just recently thought about this very topic since my "future" motor will likely have 150hp more than stock and torque to match. I will also probably go from 3.55 gears to 3.08 gears with the extra power, because I need to get out of the drone range on interstate trips. Plus, the 3.08 gear will allow for higher speeds and may be more suitable to a 306 with a 2.2L Kenne Bell.
