Question for FIPK Owners

I just installed mine and noticed that K&N says not to re-install the MAF screen. I've read on diffrent threads about the screen being of some importants. Did you put the screen back on anyway or did you go by the book and leave it off? If you want to give me your impressions of the FIPK that would be a bonus :nice: . Thanks.

nah

Nah, you don't need it in. I don't think you CAN put it back in, to be honest. Not unless I missed something, which is entirely possible. I didn't put mine back in though. I looked at it and thought about it, but I left it out instead.

You should be fine. You've got a big filter on that that should protect you. Just make sure everything is all sealed up right, and OIL YOUR FILTER. The instructions say that it will not catch dirt and debris if you don't oil it.

I put mine back on at first, it was hard as hell. I took it off later cuz I realized it wasn't supposed to be on there. As far as noticing a difference, it was my second mod next to mufflers, so I couldn't tell much except for a different exhaust tone.

chicks-dig-it, love the avatar. Bill RAWKS!

As for the screen... With my mods I've noted that the car has something of a cold stumble at low RPM and thought perhaps the airflow-smoothing of the screen might be needed to keep the MAF happy. I put the screen back in and didn't notice a thing...no improvement in the stumble, no betterment of driveability anywhere else. In fact, the car felt slower to my buttdyno.

I took it out and it'll be staying out. Just make sure your filter is in, and stays in, good shape. Any holes might allow solids into the engine that would otherwise be stopped by the screen.

When I installed a Densecharger on my old six, I looked into this. I talked to a Ford technician and he said the screen is there primarily to smooth out airflow entering the MAM, and secondarily to provide backup protection for the air filter.

Anyway, I left it off on my six. I never had any CEL, poor idling, and my A/F was always good.
