Question on cold air kit

I dont have one or anything, was just wondering though, if you are installing a cold air kit such as the Steeda or K&N FIPK are you supposed to remove the silencer or is that up to the person doing it. Thanks

the cold air kit will eliminate, the silencer and the stock air box/filter and depending on what style you go with, some will even get rid of the maf to throttle body hose as well...
