when i did my tranny a few years ago i noticed that my shifter didn't sit "centered" in the shifter hole. i had a busted motor mount and thought that was the reason. well i did a tko swap on my friend's car and his is the same thing. both are off to the right. when it's in first it looks like it's in 3rd, maybe even 5th to some. the way the crossmember attached looked fine. do we have it reversed on both cars? should we flip it around and wedge it into place with a crowbar and bolt it down? i dont want to end up putting any unneccessary force on the bolts and having them snap or something worse.

any opinions?

is the off centered part normal?

bad motor mounts are usually the cause. Might want to check the motor mounts and trans mount and replace.

If you change the motor mounts, remember to loosen the trans mount and center it before the final tightening of the motor mounts.

Chris-

My shifter is now level as I switched the shifter handle over to the left side. I found out that the handle is suppose to be bolted to the LEFT side of the shifter stub and not the right. All is well now and I'm sure yours will be too once you swap the handle to the left side. Try it and see...
