question on v6-v8 swap for auto-x/street car??

so i bought a 95 with a v6 and a 5 speed...super clean and for only 600 clams...so ive always wanted to try my hand at a road corse, plans are to leave it as is and drive it wile stock pyling parts...my main question is engine transplant...with a pretty tight budget should i A) find a 4.6l donor car and swap it in or B) since theres no emissions testing in Iowa swap in an older carbed v8 ? ive been weighing the pros and cons and so far they seam to be pretty equal...any input would be appreciated...thanks in advance

I think the hangup with parts is the price for swapping that chassis to 4.6. I think going with a SBF from the start, is the way to go. Buying used parts for Windsor motors is dirt cheap (Cams, Exhaust, Cylinder Heads, etc.), than building a high HP forced induction 4.6.

As much as I love the 4.6 mod motors, the ease of collecting parts at such a cheap rate would save you more money than buying a donor car and swapping parts over that way I would think.

Old pushrod power is definitely cheap and easy to make, but the modulars are rev happy engines. Most of that type of racing that I've seen has the cars winding out pretty high, so I would personally go with a nice aluminum modular. Since you have a car that came pushrod either way that year, I would probably try to build a high RPM 302, maybe even with some boost.

Before going to far, read the rules for the class of SCCA racing you want to do. I think you'll find doing an engine swap will put you into a class where you could never be competitive.

I read an article a few years back on stroker 3.8's going to 4.2 an getting an intake off a windstar van. This might be worth looking into since you'd have close to the 4.6 displacement an lighter weight.
