Questions about Fuel Economy...

I am planning on giving the stang a tune up and was wondering what things I should change out in order to gain better fuel economy. The only things I know of are plugs, fuel filter, and O2 sensor. What else should I change out for better gas consumption? I have used fuel injection cleaner on other cars I have owned but does it really work? I have head some people say no. I just changed my oil (good stuff, full synthetic) so that is ok for now. I am currently getting about 210 miles to a tank (when it reaches E, not when the tank is completely empty, I know there is like a gallon and a half left or something when it hits E) of combined city/hwy driving. I think that is a bit low. Any suggestions?

From my personal experience that fuel injection cleaner didn't do **** for me. I'm gettin the same mileage out of my car as you are too, I've done plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, cleaned the k&n and it stayed at about the same. Let me know if anything you do helps out!

I haven't seen fuel injector cleaners do very much either. Do wires help fuel economy?

wires arent gonna do anythng for your 99 stang because, well, it doesnt have any. you can also think of maybe making sure your air cleaner is clean. also something like SeaFoam is popular with the crownvic.net guys and they have the same motor

I'm getting better mileage then that with my Cobra.. Also, my gas mielage increased when I did my hpipe, catback and put in a K&N so you may want to look at that, plus you'll get more power and sound.

I got the same mileage increase on my GT when I did those mods also.

or you could just drive your car like you are 80 and never go WOT or over 3500, that will give you a lot better mileage

This is the only way to get better mileage for sure, but how much fun would that be . As far as mods helping fuel economy, not in my case (k&n, o/r H, catback). I didn't notice you had a 99, so bdcardinal is correct nevermind on the wires.

Short shift until it hurts. I got 250 out of my Mach 1 shifitng at 2000 rpms with a mix 50/50 of city/highway. Cruising at 40 in 5th.

lol you guys are all crazy i only get 180 tops to a tank no matter how i drive! IM TAKING MY CAR IN THIS WEEK TO GET LOOKED AT! but 210 mpt would be great to have your lucky!

Short shift.
Coast a little bit up to stop signs.
When in cruise, think a little bit, and arrange
things so that you avoid engine-braking,
make every drop of gas...count.
When cresting a hill, do so slightly slower than
your average speed.

Or you could do like i did and get deployed to korea for a year. I havent dropped a dime on gas in almost a year
