I have a 2001 Ford F-150 with a 4.6L 2 valve engine, all stock. I was looking at the Zex Truck Nitrous kit, would that cause the engine to blow up or could it handle like a 55 or 75 shot?
You'd probably be ok with what you're considering, but just remember that the stock engine isn't designed to be ran with nitrous, some people run over 100 shots with no problems, some people have intakes blow up on them with 75 shots.
Some people choose to get dyno tunes to pull some timing or change the a/f mixture when running nitrous.. I for one definately would do that if I were considering using nitrous.
55-75 is ok. Most companies,(definately NX) have done the homework to make sure that you won't run lean. Make sure not to use it below 3000 and not to hit the factory rev limiter as it uses a fuel cut off to limit rpm and will cause an immediate pure nitrous feed to the motor. An rpm window switch is what i would consider a bare minimum to run for safety, the hp added isn't as big a concern as that.
Yea the 4.6 intake manifolds are sh1tty, which is why I think they blew with nitrous. But like others said, it's all in the tune. If the car has the AFR set properly, you'll be set. Most people stick with 50-100 shot.
