I just got some 4.10s in the mail and was talking to some mechanics and they said these gears are going to guzzle up my gas, so I wanted to ask my mustang Enthusiasts, the guys who actually drive cars with these gears, and find out what you all say and get some advice.
ok my situation is I wanted to get some gears at least 3.73 up to 4.10s (even 3.90s). I do a lot of interstate driving and on top of that when i do drive my normal cruising speed is at least 75-85 mph. So in pertains to what you just read, is 4.10s a bad idea b/c with gas prices climbing I do not want to lose gas effeciency.
Should I get new gears such as the 3.73 or 3.90 //// or stick with 4.10s. Now when you decide to leave your reply/advice please do not only think of performance b/c I already know performance-wise the 4.10s will give me better launch and better 1/4 time. I want to know about all around gear (good launch and decent gas mileage) Thanks yall.....advice is appreciated:D

i got 4.10's on my cobra and i got 205 miles out of a full tank, all city driving....no freeway....i never checked my mileage with the stock gears though.....is 205 good for all city driving here in LA where traffic is hell...? LOL

You'll lose 1-2 mpg max with the 4.10's . If you plan on supercharging (or nitrous/turbo) in the future, stick with the 3.73's :nice:
i do plan on getting at least one of these power adders in the future, will 3.90s have restrain against me??

ALso, is this correct 4.10s @ 3000 rpm=80-82mph. (appr.)&&&& 3.73s @ 3000 rpm=91-93mph.
if this is true I'm guessing 3.90 @ 3000 rmp should=86-88 mph

I'm set on the 3.90s when I get the money. At 70 mph on the highway, I figured about 2200 rpm. If I hit the traps in 4th at 105mph, I should be at 5300rpm which is only 100 rpm below my calculated shift points leaving room for improvement.

I have not noticed any drop with my 3.73's so 4.10 can't be too bad.

like posted I would expend 1mpg-2mpg range depending on the mix. lower gears help milage around town so on an even mix of driving it is proably really not a big deal.

you could also plus size your rear tire up to 27" or so if you wanted to play with it. that would be like having 3.90's roughly.
