Quick coolant overfill ?

I'm being a thread whore right now but, our coolant system is supposed to hold 14 quarts which is a little over 3 gallons. I put in 2 and a 1/3 gallons and it seems full. I am assuming the rest is probobly what wasn't able to come out of the system when drained, and if overfilled is this bad. I just installed the Fluidyne and if something happend to this I would f**king cry. How exactly do you know when it's filled to the correct level? Any input or past experience is welcomed. Thanks fellas.

WELL, what your suppost to do, is fill the radiator, fill the overflow tank, and run the engine till the thermostat kicks in, and the rad. fluid starts to circulate. Then you can re-check your level, because THEN you will need more fluid, once the WHOLE system is full.

Just put in a Fluidyne in this weekend, and I'm still burping the system. Basically, when you drain the system coolant drains from everywhere. Simply filling the radiator doesn't push the coolant everywhere. The way I did it is:

Fill radiator to top, but leave radiator cap off. Start engine and let it idle. the coolant level will drop quickly, how much depends on how many air pockets there are. Let it idle until the thermostat opens; the top hose'll get hot. The coolant level will likely drop again.

At this point, shut off the engine and refill the radiator. Over the next several days, check the coolant level and make sure it's still full. It can take several days for all the air to work its way out.

Or try to jack the car up as high as possible to move the air pockets to the front. I heard this may work but i can't remember were i read/heard this from hell it's worth a shot.
