Ok, I'm near completion of my "first" re-build. (302, heads, cam, Roller Rockers, ETC).

When you all re-assembled your engines did you leave off the valve covers (not sealing them) until you had the engine in the car and running. Or did you seal them before. Reasoning for the question I'm concerned about re-torqueing my roller rockers after start up.

Thanks for you input.

I had everything together with gaskets if that's what you're asking. I didn't have them sealed with gasket sealer (cork or rubber/metal gaskets). If you run it without the valve covers plan on for a smoke show .

I always put the valve covers on, two reasons, first I want to keep as much crap as possible out of the engine, and second if I am going to bang something up when I'm installing the motor, I'd rather it be a valve cover than a rocker/valve spring.

Thanks guys, I was on the same thought path too. Valve covers is cheap compared to the labor to fix a valve.

Thanks
