Wow, I haven't logged in here in almost 3 years! I'm back into mustangs finally along with my Jeep and '56 belair.

I am going to look at/drive a '68 Mustang GT Coupe that a friend of mine is selling tomorrow after work. It's in pretty good shape and runs and drives great. It has the original (rebuilt) 302 4V in it with a C4.

Pardon my ignorance but I have a few questions:

A) This IS a 5 lug car, correct? I could swear he told me it was 5 lug and possibly even disc front?

B) I think I remember from my days of owning a failed '68 project coupe, the fender apron on the battery side, the rear frame rails, the under cowling and the torqu boxes are the MUST LOOK places for rust, correct?

C) Can anyone decode a fender tag from it?

To be completely honest, I am not too worried about the rust unless it's really bad. This is going to be my daily driver on and off with my '05 Jeep Rubicon. I don't mind having to replace the apron and the cowling eventually, but the rear frame is what scares me.

If everything is a GO tomorrow, I plan on tinting the windows, dropping it, adding some exhaust, a stereo and upgrading the brakes if they are drum.

My other question:

I also have a set of 2001 Mustang GT Bullitt wheels and tires from another friends mustang sitting in my garage. I called him and asked about them (I've been storing them for him for several years) and told me I can have them if I want them.

Will these little guys just bolt right on or do I need some spacers or something else to make them work?

I would love to run some 275/40 in the rear and the current 245/45 on the front but I have a feeling they won't fit.

Buying new tires for the free wheels does not concern me if they will work.

Thanks!

Dan

If it is a orginal v8 car it is a 5 lug car and can have factory disc brakes in the front.

Your correct on the Rust spots as well as floors and rocker panels.

post the door code up and people on here can tell you what you have. 302 GT should be A code I believe.

the wheels will fit with 1" to 1.25" billet spacers. As well as the 275 40 17 tires should fit. I just put a set of Foose wheels on my 67 with those rear tires and they fit with room to spare.

To lower for daily driver go with some 41/2 leaf mid eyes for rear springs and some 570 1 inch drop coils with a good shock.

I did 51/2 and 620 and grab a track shock and it is pretty stiff.

Might consider an AOD or T5 swap for a daily driver as well. Fuel is not getting any cheaper and it's nice to cruise down the high way at 2500 rpm.

Good Luck and Welcome back I do went on a vacation from this place and found my way back.

Thanks Harndog, EXACTLY what I was looking for. Here is what he has for the fender tag. I found a decoder and most of it makes sense to me. A J-Code 320 4V out of Jersey. Blue exterior, Blue interior, Power Steering...and that's about it as far as I can tell.

A later model (92-95) MAF EFI motor/AOD/Harness will definitely be on the list as well.
