true or not true?
I was looking into buying a Z spec today and the guy selling told me as proof he said only z spec transmissions use a pocket bearing (simular to a wheel bearing) and regular WC T5's use 15 individual loose needle bearings inside were the main shaft and input meet.

Here is a great chart from 2bav8's website (which is also a great site with valuable info)
Look at the notes. The T5z is a -249.

The front main bearing on a world class T5 and newer is a tapered bearing. I believe on the non-world class T5s it is a sealed bearing which is not capable of as heavy a load.

to the OP: you are correct the z spec and the 93 cobra are the only t5s that use a tapered bearing between the input shaft and the main shaft. take the input shaft off and if it is not one of these you will have needle bearings that fall out, instead of a tapered bearing race.

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong piece. Are you talking about the front main bearing or the bearing that is inside the input shaft that the main shaft connects to ?

the bearing inside the input shaft where it meets the main shaft is a tapered roller brg on a z spec or otherwise.

as mentioned, he is incorrect, the cobra trannies had them, and the cobra trannies are NOT z spec.

the z spec were the ONLY trannies to get the 2.95 first gear ratio. Put it in first, count the revolutions of the output shaft, this will tell you what trans it is.
