I'm doing a compression check on my 92gt, i did one side and was going to let the car get warm again b4 i did the other. When i start the car up i get lots of backfiring in the headers. Is this from the unburned fuel? I didn't disconnect the fuel, just the ignition when i was doing it. Just want to make sure it's ok to run it like that. Do i have my wires crossed or something?

id check your wires for a cross wiring situation, as you mentioned. you dont say which side is backfiring. you may have fouled the plugs on the side you didnt do yet (and the plugs you did first if you only pulled one at a time rather than all at once on the bank you did first). when you pull the plugs for the other side, you should be able to tell real quick if they are fouled.Nottoofast50 said:

you probably have some wires crossed. you dont need to do it warm.
besy way is to remove all 8 spark plugs so motor turns over easily, install the compression tester and use the starter to turn it over a few revs then go to the next. disconnect the main coil wire when doing this.
