QUICK! How are Volkswagen's ?

I know that this isn't 5.0 tech, but seems to be a lot more knowledgable people in this forum than the talk forum. Anyways, I have the opportunity to buy a 99 Passat GLS with only 22,000 miles. Its the 4 cylinder turbo car, with a 5 spd. How are these cars? I'm going to take a look at it tonight. This would be my daily driver...

Have it checked out by a professional VW mechanic -- it'll be worth spending the money on that. The challenge is that when things do break -- they tend to be EXPENSIVE to repair. Even though the mileage is low, the car is now 7 years old -- so, stuff will happen.

I'd especially want to know what kind of fluid change maintenance the car had seen -- transaxle, brake fluid, coolant, etc.

There are some great places that have VW only parts and they have pretty good prices. I bought a Golf new in 1988 and had it for 11 years and 200,000 miles before I lost it in an accident, I would still have it today if it did not get wrecked.

vw's are some seriously long lasting cars if they are well maintained. give it the once over and of it has been all around well kept - buy it before someone else does.
