Quick HP!

How do I get it??

I have a 2002 GT with a Mac Exhaust (cat-backl)and K&N filter. Havent done a lot yet but I was considering one of those computer re-programmers or pullies. What do you guys think? Any positive experiences you would like to share? Gas is of course a consideration but not an extremely limiting factor as I drive my 2000 Dodge Neon around as to keep my Mustang lookin pretty.

If anyone wants to direct me to a good thread they know of on a similar topic, that would be cool too.

Thanks everyone!

Well as far a tuner goes, with your mods (Or lack there of) the tuner probably is going to do much for you. I would hold off on that if I were you. At least until you have done more modifications.

UDP's are a good bang for the buck. I have the piggy back style (March) and I noticed a seat of the pants gain. I have also had ZERO problems with them despite what others say.

CAI: I have the K&N FIPK 2 and this is a mod that I would have regret if I had paid full retail for it, I felt ZERO gains. It does look nice under the hood.

TB/Plenum Combo: This is a good mod to consider, certainly didnt make a HUGE diference but I did feel an increase in the upper RPM's/Higher speeds. I have an Accufab 70mm TB, but since your car is an 02 I believe it came from the factory with a 70mm where as mine came stock with a 65mm so if I were you I would run your stock TB and just get a plenum. I went with a Dragon Plenum, I only bought this particular brand because I got a good deal on used, but I would reccomend Accufab.

After market mid-pipe: As far a horsepower per dollar this is probably going to be your best bet. You will have to investigate which style you want to go with H-Pipe, X-Pipe or MAC Prochamber. If you are going to do one power increasing mod this would be your best bet.

LT's: Now we are getting out of "Quick Horsepower" but they will give you significant gains and in my opinion are worth every penny.

Gears: Although technically not a Horsepower mod like Mel96GT they allow you optimize the 4.6 torque curve and they make the car "Feel" significantly faster. I was very slow to become a believer in gears as I never installed them in my previous two mustangs, but now after having them I can imagine have a mustang without them. I went with 3:73's because I do a lot of freeway commuting and they didnt affect my fuel economy what so ever. Most people will say you should go with 4:10's but to me the 3:73's are plenty.

One thing that you didnt mention, but in my opinion should be your first mod is an aftermarket shifter (Assuming that your car is a 5 speed). There are quite a few aftermarket shifters on the market these days, and any of them will be a dramatic improvement over the stocker.

All of the mods I listed are things that I have done to my car, and best I can tell my fuel economy hasnt changed from stock what so ever so long as you keep your foot out of it.

Hope this helps and happy modding!

This better not be right. I always thought/knew the modular GT's came with a 65mm TB from the factory. comeone chim in please...
i dont mean to steal your thread or anything, just want to get a quick correction :)

Scratch what I said about TB size... Mustanggt108 is right... For some reason I thought that in 02 Mustangs were upgraded with a 70mm TB over the 65mm. I apologize, I dont know where I heard that but I was misinformed. :bang:

Vanilla Mustang I would recomend an Accufab TB as well... Cant say if there are any gains with a 75mm over the 70mm.

Gears seem to be constant here, after that the tuner and a set of pullies. Its good to hear, stng, that your fuel economy didnt change! Thats almoast amazing actually!

I got some guys, one has a supercharged Scion and the other has the WRX w/ supercharger (not STI) lookin to race me in a couple months and its worth a grand (atleast) in mods to me to keep my rep with my mustang! I'm gonna call my shop up and see what they can do about some 3:7.3's, I did them on my 88 at this place.

Thanks for all the quick input!!

The WRX's are turbo as Roadcone stated. They arent as fast as the STi's, and stock for stock a GT should take a WRX by a bit with equal drivers. The STi's are pretty damn quick, and will most likely wax a stockish GT with a good driver. The WRX's get fast with some little supporting mods though, so be careful either way.

You could probaly race the Scion in reverse and still take him, lol.

LOL....If you want go then get at least 373's for 5 spd or 410's for auto.....about $350-400 with install....then get an Accufab plenum and 75mm TB with CIA and then get an SCT Dyno tune.....that should drop you a full sec if you have some sticky tires........

"ED"

STREET RACING BAD BAD BAD , unless your a real good driver :D
If all that matters to you is the race with the WRX then do what stang2003GT said. But if you want your car to be a beast at all times including the future. I would highly recomend a set of 3.73's and a 75mm TB+Plenum and then comes the ultimate KB mongoose kit from Modularpowerhouse on top of all That. You will definatly be happy , and also broke :) but its worth it :nice:
