Quick question about 02 sensor difference, help.

I went to the parts store and got a new 02 sensor.

The codes pulled were for Bank 1 Sensor 1. The part number is the same as the one for Bank 1 Sensor 2 that I replaced a while back.

Are they in fact the same sensor? Or did I get the wrong one?

sounds like you got the wrong part, just another reason "WHY" you need to-go to a dealer and get the right part.

parts stores are know for having bad listings, selling you a part that fits everywhere and in gereral just selling crap.

So Sensor 1 and Sensor 2 (both on passenger side - Bank 1) are different 02 sensors?

Dealerships HERE rip people off.

Example: "Mother-in-law" went to get a Ford Taurus SHO fixed at a dealership with various mechanical problems.

There price - $21xx dollars.

My price - $150.

They were charging $600 bucks for a new throttle body, when alls it had was some gunk/carbon build-up in the throttle body.

They were charging $250 for a cam sensor and labor, when I bought it (from dealership) for $30 bucks and changed it in less than one minute.

A/C cycling switch was being charged in the $300 dollar range and I got it for $15 and changed it in less than one minute.

Airbag light was on, it was a fuse out. They were wanting to put a new module in it.

They charged $75 dollars to get the codes read and I got the same codes read for free at Advanced Auto Parts.

I know your dealership would treat it differently

Anyways, I just want to confirm that Sensor 1 and Sensor 2 are supposed to be different?

the front O2'S are the same from bank 1 and bank 2 but they are different from the rear/aft O2 monitors

Real quick, what is the size wrench do I need to remove the 02's? Is it a 7/8" wrench? It's always the wrench I don't have...

I agree with randy on this, get real motorcraft sensors..

BTW they are selling you the wrong part, the upstreams and different than the downstream..

Why not just order the part from randy, he will sell it to you at a good price.

I use either a 7/8th wrench or I have a 02 sensor socket I use.

According to their computers, which I looked at, Bosch sells the same 02 for upstream and downstream. It has the 4 wire setup needed, which I guess the downstream one does not, but the upstream does. Apparantly the downstream sensor can use the upstream sensor from Bosch. It cleared two codes.

My front one is broken, the one I look to replace.

My down streams have a 4 wire set up. In fact when I did my mid pipe swap my passenger side o2 was cross threaded so bad that I had to use of of my rear o2s for the front on the new pipe. Then took a set of old o2s to use with the mils.... No check engine lights and the car has got faster. Maybe its just an 04 thing but my rears were the same.

On a side note. I have read on my threads here that the rear o2s dont affect air/fuel or anything. I had to drive my car 70 miles to a buddys house so we could do the mils (home made) and extend the wire. I litteraly got 3-5 miles be gallon the whole way up. (rear o2s were obviously unhooked). Hooked everything back up with goodies installed and no problems yet. Been about 1 month so far.

I looked at the front and rear 02's. They looked EXACTLY the same except for the fact that the front connector was colored green and the rear's are purple. The wires were the color, same number, guage, and sensor's actually looked the same. Even the 'inside' connectors.

The 02 sensor did not fix my problem though. Taking it to the shop now...

that is just another reason you Do Not Buy aftermarket, they are 2 very different sensors and we have seen processors damaged from use of O2's in place of monitors

the downstream sensors are diffrent on each side, atleast on the 04's they are, but the two upstream sensors are the same. but if you have any mods just get mil eliminators

Not to hi-jack the thread but now you have me worried. Help me out here. Explain why I have the driver side front o2 with the stock sensor in the exact spot I took it out of the stock h pipe. But my passenger front has a rear o2 in it due to my stock h pipe and sensor were cross threaded somewhere along the line, either by ford or the tech at the dealership when they gave me a new tranny.

I have a old set of 02s in the rear bungs to fill the holes and connect my homeade mils and wire extensions. I have absolutely no driveability problems and no check engine lights. In fact my car picked up 3 tenths from this.

Now help me understand where the difference is. All the factory sensors looked the same and I have found no problems with the car since the swap.

I am not questioning you knowledge or intelligence but I just want to understand to prevent failure in/on my car.

(Spoke to my local dealer/techs and they mentioned a heater circuit but if I have no cel or ses the not to worry)

I take that back, the Bosch (Advance Auto Parts) 02 turned off my service engine light. Bosch makes a lot of OEM style parts.

I'm telling you, the 02's looked exactly the same except for the color of plastic. There may be a different signal to them, but they return what is needed.

I was think different purposes but will work for both...... But I don't know. So far so good with no problems Have about 800 miles and 1 track day so it will go or blow!
