Quick question about rear brakes as I change rotors/pads.

I had no problems swapping over the front rotors and pads and using a C-clamp to compress the caliper, but the rear calipers are very hard to push in.

Am I missing something?

Is there a way I can bleed off the pressure?

Thanks for any tips.

they get turned in using a rear caliper compressor tool.

you can get a little universal tool that goes in the little notches in the pistons... Twist, dont force them straight in.

You can borrow this tool at Autozone, makes this job a snap.

Is there a way to use some needle nose pliers to twist it in the housing?

Also, where does the anti-rattle shim/clips go? A diagram would be nice!

I've used the pliers as you said!... but I broke the rubber dust seal...

The tool is just a small metal box. You can buy it for a few dollars, with the expectation of needing it again in the future.

The box is too small for our rear rotors, at least the one that I have is.

I bought the tool from Harbor Freight for like $20 almost half price than autozone. There was no way that pliers would have turned mine back in. They were really hard at first to turn.

Edit: I'm talkin about 1994 up..............I had a Foxbody Saleen and the Box worked on the rear pistons. Not sure what brakes you are doing?

I've used the box on the SN95 calipers. It works, but the tool that compresses as you turn is great.


Anti-rattle clips go ont he side of the u-bracker. One on each side and then you slide the pads on.

I have pics on my home PC...i'm at work now

I just turned mine in with huge Channel Lock pliers, not ripping the boot. It works okay.
