Traded my f150 lifted 1997 never gave me any issues when someone offered a 2000 mustang GT with headers and flow masters.. for the most part it’s been in the mechanic from a faulty alternator wire to a giant gas tank leak.. been in the mechanic 2 months because I couldn’t find the 2 valves attached to the gas tank..

I somewhat regret the trade but will the mustang be a reliable vehicle once it’s out the mechanic? So far over $800 in repairs after this I plan on repairing myself which I don’t look forward to due to the complexity of Ford.. even changing the window motor was a pain..

this is my new mustang as well as the valves that didn’t come with the gas tank that took forever to get.

An update if anybody could please help me?
My mechanic said he was frustrated with installing the new gas tank in the car, what tools am I going to need to install the gas tank myself? Also anything I need to know other than plug and play? There is 2 hoses on the side of the tank and 2 valves on top, I have all the parts I need.
My mechanic said the mustang was cursed and I’m starting to think it is, he gave up trying to repair it tonight so it’s in my hands to get it running.

The first place I check when I am trying to do something is LMR, which is late model restoration. They have some videos that can help you out greatly.
This is a place that you will also find a lof of the parts that you may want for upgrades. Watch their video, they are detailed and will show yo the steps that you will need for the removal and install of the selected item featured in the video. ALSO turn on the Closed Captions so that you can see what they are saying and can make the notes that you need before preparing for the project.

A floor jack and some deep well sockets will take you far in the gas tank installation process. A good reference book will be pretty helpful too

That was for a 97 mustang I have a 2000 new edge and I couldn’t find the exact tank but the junkyard offered me a 2003 cobra gas tank and said it should be the same fit.

the 2000 GT has 2 different tanks depending on the build date.
Before 12/27/99 Autozone Part#: F52B
After 12/27/99 Autozone Part#: F52D

YES the CobraTank, V6 Tank and GT Tank are the same. Ford is lazy, parts interchange in most of these cars as long as you pay attention to the things that you do. YOU HAVE TO look those part numbers up and see which one that you will need. The build date is on your drivers door jam.

The video that I posted was for general reference on how to drop a tank, the principal is the same for all makes and models. The actual size of bolts may vary. As you remove things on the tank pay attention to what they are and take pictures before removal. On the install, go in reverse order and look at those pictures for the proper connection of the new items.

If you run into a problem, take a picture and post it here so we can help you out. Someone here has most likely done before what you are attempting to do.

The Greatest tool in your inventory is that phone you have. Owners manuals are great but taking that picture of how Ford made the item fit is 10x more acurate for what you are working with everytime.

Oh boy I took it in to the police station motor pool for repair and a full tune up I don’t even have the jack supports to start and have an untrusty 1 ton jack.. hopefully receive my car soon.. miss the old f150.. All the ram trucks I ended up junking because transmissions gave out.. too costly to replace.. miss that 2500 turbo diesel especially 5.9 12 valve
