I'm piecing together a DIY turbo kit, and I've come across a guy selling a brand new XS-Power (ebay brand) for $50.... its 160 x 460 x 90 (6.3"x18.11"x3.5") with 2.5" inlet/outlet size.... he's checkin for me if that overall deminsions or just the core size. Anyway, my questions is, will this be big enough for my car? I'm lookin to run about 8psi on a stock bottom end 87 Block, plasma moly rings, ARP fasteners, PP E7s, GT40 Intake, 1.6 Alum RR, and whatever cam and injector size I choose at a later date (running 24's and an X-cam now) Thanks for any help. I needa decide today whether I wanna buy it or not. PLEASE HELP!!!

Personally that intercooler is a little small even witht he stock motor, buy one that will fit your future needs.....

Off the top of my head I just did one that was overall about 12-15" tall, 30-33" wide and 4" thick, 3" inlet and outlet. Do some searching over on The Turbo Forums.com those guys can point you in the right direction of some coolers off ebay. I have seen them for $150.00 and be decent units.

Something to keep in mind when selecting an intercooler. A majority of the cooling is done within the first few inches of airflow in the cooler. What this means is, the more surface area the air contacts within those first few inches (without being a restriction) the better. This is precisely why a small vertical flow intercooler can offer much greater cooling with less of a restriction than the same sized horizontal flow cooler. If you are stuck with a horizontal design, I would aim for a minimum area of 36" (12" tall by 3" thick). The length really won't have nearly as much impact on cooling….however, most cores in that size are going to be a good 24" in length.
