So last friday as I was cruising down the highway. some idiot was sitting on the shoulder of the highway and as soon as I started to get close he suddenly swung out infront of me and started doing a U-turn when I was pretty much right beside him. I did really everything I could to avoid getting into an accident by doing some hard braking and cranking the car into the shouler of the on-coming lane but still ended up hitting the guy... He told the police than he never even looked before pulling out to turn
Heres a before pic of the car

and after

Found out this week that the car is a write off, but was not really suprised... pretty much all of the steering is either bent or broke and the the car has a bend to it. Pasenger door is jammed closed and ripped from the bottom hindgeand there is about a half inch gap between the front of the drivers door and back of the front fender. The passenger door armrest and some of the panel got riped off. the heater/fan control switches all came out of the dash and most of the plastic trim in the dash ended up in my lap. Luckely no one was hurt at all.

Another wrecked coupe, that sucks. These coupes are getting harder and harder to find. Clean car to boot. Probably not a good idea to buy that one, like you said the frame probably is bent.

I think I might buy the car back from the insurance company and use it as a parts car or maybe use it to convert a clean 4cyl to a 5.0, as long as they don't want some crazy price for it. Any idea of what it would be worth as a parts only car? It had a brand new T5 tranny and clutch and 3:73's

That's what I did. It turned out to be very worthwhile, I got back all the go fast goodies I had bought.

At least it wasn't a hit and run - that what was the cause of the demise of my 89 GT.

In March 2008, a hit and run driver sideswiped the front of my 89 GT and totaled it. He tore off the driver's side front bumper, fog light mounting bracket, bent the fender and radiator support and tie rod. The insurance company totaled the car and gave me a check for it. At that point, the car became their property. I intended to buy it back ($200 or so) and repair it myself or have some shop do the body & paint. The insurance company said they would not insure the car, and I could only use it off road or for parts. That translated into not being able to get a valid license plate or renewal sticker for the car.

I bought the car back with a scrap/salvage title. In Florida where I was living at the time, that means the car is basically for parts only. I removed all the parts I thought I would use and had the wrecker carry the shell off for free. No wheels, no transmission, no rear axle, no electronics inside the car. All that was left in the car were the seats, a worn out 5.0 engine, the hatch and doors. The wrecker had to use an empty 20 gallon propane cylinder under the stripped shell to roll it up onto the wrecker bed. Every small thing of value was removed and stored away. The Tremec 3550, King Cobra clutch, and aluminum driveshaft has already found a home in the replacement 89 LX 5.0 hatch that I bought later in 2008.

I hate that crap, people sitting on the shoulder and then suddenly turn out. I was told in a class once that often people pull over because they are dealing with something and they don't think when they turn out. I think the other driver in this case should have been tried criminally. I really think the law should start putting people behind bars when they cause accidents like this, not oops mistakes we all make, but when they do something this stupid. He could have killed you or someone else. Spontanious thinkers cause so many problems. They have the attention spans of squirrels and the brains of opossoms. I swear.

Yes, there are lots of nice rollers going dirt cheap. I would do that.

Ya I am pretty glad no one was hurt, especialy my girlfriend who was in the side that was hit. Part that kinda sucked is I just filled it with gas and was only maybe a 1/8 mile from my girlfriends house...
Any idea what my car would be worth as a parts car? and the guy had a dodge van.

I hate when I almost get taken out by some troglodyte in some replaceable plastic blob-mobile. They don't care because they can walk onto any lot and get another one. No respect, no pride, no courtesy.

That's very good thinking. If I was in your shoes I'd definitely buy the car back, salvage all the good parts, and sell the rest for scrap.
