race gas (110 octane and higher)

i have heard race gas with that high of octane reading as in 110 and above is very bad on fuel injected cars. thats why most race cars running that gas are carbed. it is very bad on the o2 sensors it really messes with them thats why most people dont run 110 or higher in fuel injected cars. i am pretty sure 104 you are safe to run in fuel injected cars but that is the highest i would go
 
well do you know WHY? or are you just like me and have 'heard' its bad?

and i have seen lots of cars with EFI use race gas, which is why i'm wondering.

i use it time to time with nitrous or timing advance so i was just wondering.
 
I imagine running race gas in EFI motors is only harmful when it's leaded, or has some crappy additives... Locally, they sell 100 octane LEADED or 110 octane UNLEADED. Only thing is it's not going to give you any gains unless you up your timing or boost or whatever to adjust to the new max limit. Otherwise you're losing power because the fuel is harder to burn.

i know its not going to make the car faster, i'm just wondering if anyone can give me a for sure on if its bad or not, or if its just like you said, only if its leaded, in which case would it clog up the o2 sensors?

can you get leaded and unleaded high octane, i never payed much attention to be honest....

i like to run higher octane with nitrous just to be a bit safer

yes running LEADED race gas is known to shorten the life of O2 sensors, you can run the high octane UNLEADED stuff and be good, you could also run leaded but i wouldnt do it often.

yeah, i've ran 110 twice now...not a lot of it, but i had probably 1/16th of gas in my tank (93) and put in 3 or 4 gallons of 110....

don't know if it was leaded or not, but the car ran the same...

i just put some race gas in again the other day, i told a friend i would give him a ride with a 100 shot, if he gave me some of the race gas he had for his banshee......figured an easy way to have some free race gas, if it was leaded or not i'm not sure, on both accounts.....

the one time it was blue thunder i think, this time i'm not sure.
in any event, i just want the truth if someone knows for sure what the consequences are.....

i imagine the real question is, what does leaded gas do to the o2 sensors, but i wasn't sure if they made high octane unleaded, looks like i got one answer, sorta :)
 
TRy something different that works...

Xylene - 120 octane additive available at Home Depot for about $10 a gallon. Xylene is a component of regular pump gasoline, so it won't hurt your engine or fuel system. Four gallons of 93 octane + 2 gallons of 120 octane Xylene = 102 octane gas that can't be detected from regular pump gasoline. Works great and makes the engine smooth out some. The downside is that it doesn't evaporate quickly, so if you mix it in high concentrations, the car will be hard to start when the engine is cold.
