Well I just got back from the mall and got caught at a red light behind the beast. I wasn't 100% sure what it was because I haven't seen many around. But once I got next to it, I found out. Well I get next to the guy, looked young probably late 20s. So I wanted to see if he wanted to play... hehe

So I give it a little gas so he could hear my lovely exhaust. I let off. Then all of a sudden to my surpise, I hear his engine open up. So we were off! (probably going about 50mph) First time I've given my car the wide open throttle in over 2 months. Boy what a kick! It was probably the shortest race I've ever been in it ended as quick as it started. We probably only reached 85, the traffic infront of us was coming up pretty fast. When he let off, I was probably a fourth of a car behind him. haha I bet if we kept on goin, he would have been a spec in the distance.

Well we ended up side by side again (going speed limit) when all of a sudden I hear a massive "POP!". I was like HOLY**** THIS GUY JUST SHOT MY CAR!. Turns out it was my exhaust, it scared him also, lol. This is the first time this has happened to me. What exactly causes this to happen? First time in 1 year that it has ever happend and I've raced many a time. Is it just the excess what ever it is burning off?

Ummm... no offense but with your mods it would have more than likely been you that was a spec in the distance. Those things are no joke! I've seen report of them putting down ~350RWHP! I know they are heavy, but with that kind of power on tap they are going to be quicker than I think you are.

That's what I was saying. I know how fast those cars are. In the short time we raced, he was pulling like a mad man.

The backfire happened when I was totally off the gas cruising.

DOH! I thought you meant he would have been a spot in the distance BEHIND you, not in front. I got you now!

Been there, done that:

I was toying around with a 5.7 GTO on an empty Interstate and I was able to keep up with him at any speed though I did lag a little as the speeds got higher. I think I had better gearing at some speeds, but that edge was short lived. Once I got a real good look at the guy, I realized he had 3 other people in his car whereas I was by myself. What a disappointment, but then again, my car is much older with very high miles AND it's paid for.

So I guess I can do pretty well against a GTO haulin' 4 adults.

I won't even mention the 2005 Vette I lured into a quick run down a long stretch of interstate.

Good race, but like you said.......too short. Would be interesting to see what would happen at a stop light or at least from a slow roll on a long stretch of road.

Here's the basic specs:

425 hp
420 ft-lbs
4160 lbs curb weight

The Charger is heavy, but that's a good bit of power to make up for it. Max power arrives just above 6,200 rpm and apparently the automatic eagerly waits for the shift way up there if you get on it.

Magazines seem to have varying numbers on 0-60 and 1/4 mile results, but the average seems to be 5.4 and 13.5, respectively. Dodge claims 0-60 near 5.0 seconds flat and a 1/4 mile in the low 13s.

No manual tranny available.

We had a good strech of road ahead of us, it's just that he finally decided to race when the traffic was stopped at a stop light a short distance ahead of us.

Yeah, I'm actually amazed at how some people will try to continue the race in traffic, not to mention normal commuter traffic.

Oh well, I'm sure you'll get another chance before too long.

I'm gonna weigh in here because my uncle has a Charger R/T with full exhaust, a drop in K and N, and its ECU flashed.

[rant]
It sucks. It's like driving a beached whale. The handling and braking are absolutely miserable and you can't see squat out of the chopped windows. Its not super fast and I can take it from a dig or a roll with the grocery getter-ish mods listed in my sig.

The SRT8 will take me, but I'm massively unimpressed that a 350 CI Hemi is running only low 14s while a 6.1 inch Hemi runs only low 13s. I think with a ton of weight reduction they could be fast but not as is.

The new GTO's are very impressive, its too bad they've been beat with the ugly stick. BRING BACK THE WS6 TRANS AM!!! [/rant off]

Nice run but he would have beat you. Like killer canary said: They are heavy as hell but they do have big horsepower to compensate for it. I'd say you probably at least an intake manifold short.
