Silly question time:

When a racing wheel stud is measured, how is it done? In other words, is a 3" racing stud measured from tip to tip, or is it just the threaded portion?

I bought some 2.5" wheel studs from Steeda, put them in the 5-lug axles that I am installing in my car on Sat.....never bothered to actually measure them. I held my axle up the inside of my rim, and the lugs stick out past my center cap. So THEN I decided to measure and they are 3" from the bottom of the head on the stud to the tip of the lug. But the threaded portion is around 2.5 inches. So I don't know if they sent me the wrong ones or if I am measuring wrong.

Either way I am going to have to either cut them down or replace them...again. h

for a car to pass tech your wheel studs must be 7/16's of an inch sticking out past the lug nuts. as for how they measure them i would suspect its the threaded portion.

All the bolts I have ever dealt with are measured from the end of the bolt to the bottom of the head. Maybe wheel studs are different, but I kinda doubt it.

Well Steeda says their 3" studs are actually a little longer than 3" from tip to tip, and 2.5" studs are longer as well.
Steeda claims that their 2.5" studs will fit under center caps....but not in all cases. I am putting on a set of 97 GT 17" rims, and the center cap would not fit over the 2.5" studs. So I was forced to remove them and go back to stock studs. O
