I am thinking about installing a rack and pinion in my 70 Mustang. I am also looking at the coil over setups. I have heard the Flaming River rack and pinion is a problem. Who else is worth looking at? I know TCP and Global West make both the rack & pinion and coil over setups. Has anyone installed either of these? I would like one of the bolt in type setups. I don't really want to cut the car up. Thanks.

global west doesn't make a rack kit, but they do have a new coilover kit. for the rack i would lok at www.randallsrack.com. Randall is a great guy nad he has a quality product, i've yet to hear a single complaint about the rack kit. there is another option www.speeddirect.com it's called the steeroids rack, i have heard a few complaints from people that they didn't like the way the rack mounted up but none of those people actually have one either. i think 70vert just did the steeroids rack and a coilover kit from www.uniqueperformance.com the UP coilover kit is basically a copy of the TCP kit since that was what UP was using the eleanor cars when TCP went under, so they made their own so they could stay in production. definitely stay away from the flaming river rack, i've yet to hear anything good about that rack kit even from the people who have actually been able to get one installed, if you can get it in the car you'll have bigtime problems with bumpsteer since the geometry of the rack sucks. most people have not even been able to get them in the car unless they are running stock manifolds, headers are a no go. if you have the money the TCP power rack is still about the best quality you can get, though.

If I go with the TCP rack, will I be able to use headers on a 351w for my 1970 Mustang? I will stroke the 351w to a 393 so 1 3/4" headers are needed. I am having a hard time finding 1 3/4" shorties. I only see long tubes. Any issues?

don't know for sure, i think you can use most headers but i'd call TCP to make sure.
