Trust me, if my Rocky Mountain Phantom2 was just a joke, I wouldn't have an effin' drivers license right now. I have been stopped so many times with so many different kinds that I would definately know after almost two years of use if it didn't work, because I've used almost all of them and had them fail on me. It may not be the best one made, but it hasn't let me down and I push it beyond what it promises every day.

No, nothing does effectively combat instant on, which is the beauty of a jammer. You still have to pay attention, because nomatter how good it is the signal will eventually punch through the jam- but it's all about paying attention anyway.

If they pull you over some general guidelines to help make the officer's job as easy as possible:
1) Stay in the car
2) Have license and insurance/registration info ready
3) Turn the engine off, put flashers on
4) Keep both hands on the wheel where the officer can see them as he/she approaches the car
5) If it's night, kill your headlights, and turn the inside light on so the officer can easily see you and your hands
6) If you have to reach somewhere (glovebox for example) to get something he/she asks for, tell them what you're going to do before you do it -- like "that's under the seat officer, I'm going to reach for it" or "that's in the trunk - I need to get out of the car to get it".
7) Yes officer, No officer, Thankyou officer are about the only responses you should consider.

I am running the Bel 980 in my Porsche and in the GS400. I will be doing a stealth install with the V1 in the Porsche next month. I will say that for the money the Bel 980 is great and has saved my @#% a couple of times...

Very true. Common sense with some of them, but i would of never thought about turning on the overhead light.

I hate that! Why is it that 90% of the people on the road go into hyperseisure when they see a cop behind them? Or, driving down the highway, and all the sudden everybodies going 10 under because there's one sitting on the side of the road. Which leads me to this:

This is so true, and it's far more dangerous to speeders than radar or lazer. However, some common sense is in order. Everyone it seems, whether they are speeding or not, slams on the brakes when they see a cop. Well, if you didn't have his attention before, you do now! If they're sitting on the side of the road and you hit the brakes, the nose dives, you make a scene and look like you were doing something wrong. If they are following you and you hit the brakes, the brake lights go on, it's a police beacon and you look like you were doing something wrong. One of the great things about a stick car is between engine compression and clutch feathering, you can slow yourself down without dropping the nose or lighting up the crime- if you are paying enough attention then you should be able to slow down before VASCAR can be accurately used against you. If you are going too fast and need brakes, (again, if you are paying enough attentioin and see them before you're too close) the ebrake doesn't activate the brake lights or drop the nose of the car.

Actually, cops don't need them. I have a few friends who are, and even driving out of state they don't need them. They get pulled over, and it's: "can I see your license?" out comes the wallet, out flips the badge, and then it's: "slow it down, have a nice day." It's almost worth being a cop...

In some states- for example Rhode Island- it's a state law that you have to turn on the dome light when an officer pulls you over.

i have gotten a ticket with my rocky mountain radar phazer II, but like someone said, it blocks them until 50-200 ft, and I just didn't get slowed down fast enough. He got me at 86 in a 70 (16 over, so they wouldn't pay the ticket. I actually asked him to write it for 85 so they'd pay my ticket; he didn't like that). 86 wasn't as bad as it could have been considering I was coming down from a 110 mph run in my Grand Cherokee.

As far as cops giving you a ticket if you do have a radar detector...maybe some places, but not here, i've been stopped a lot with mine and I just leave it on the windshield most of the time, although I have pulled it down a couple times if they're far enough back. I want a valentine one, but I was also thinking about the one w/ the front and back mounts (the one the guy is getting installed in his porsche).

I love mine.It tells how many signals,if it's in front,behind,or beside you. Plus they will upgrade it,if something new comes,but upgrading it isn't cheap.I think 250 for the upgrade,which i wanna do,but i am afraid to be without mine,for a few days.

Ja mon. Punchthrough is a B!+ch. Lucky you though- here in CT anything 85mph or over isn't just a fine of two weeks pay- it's suspension of license, in custody arrest and appearance in court. Don't ask me how I found that out...

When I was in car audio we installed a lot of front/rear stealth K-40's. They were like $850 parts and labor, but it was one sweet setup when it was done. Don't know how that system compares to the V1 stealth, but there's things to be said for no visible R/D on the windshield. The more I read about Valentine, the more I want to try them out... maybe in the wife's car, she'll put it to the test

I agree w/ that list but those two rules go agnest eachother. You cant keep you hands on the wheel while you digging for your reg and ins in the glove box. I find it best to just sit there w/ your hands on the wheel until he gets to the door and asks you to get them out. The last thing a cop wants to see as he walks up to the car is someone digging in the glove box possibly for a gun....

Very true. Just last week, I was driving on a two-lane road. An oncoming cop was using instant-on on traffic and my Valentine One picked him up close to two miles away*, and that was over somewhat hilly terrain. Given the chance to choose again, I would definitely get another Valentine.

* I don't know the actual distance, but I was slowed down to 55mph for nearly a minute before I finally came upon the cop, and if he was approaching me at the same speed, that's pretty close to two miles. My friends in the car were like, "Why are you slowing down? It must be a false alarm."

True, but last time I checked, laser had to be used from a stationary vehicle and could not be shot through glass.

Out here in calif. the freeways are marked along the sides of the roads with white marks every so many feet, so an officer does NOT have to be behind you. we have helicopters that fly above and just radio down to the awaiting cops along the on ramps and radio in your car model, color & plate. BUSTED!!

as for following a cop car, he can still give you a ticket here. if the cop is driving 50 in a 40 and your moving at the same speed neither moving closer to him or dropping back, it's quite clear your traveling at the same speed as him.. believe me, calif is one of the worst states there is for radar/laser gun use.

I use the Uniden GPSRD which has a very long detection distance compared to other models, and has yet to fail me. I use it mainly for it's average MPH reading on the unit and travel features, but it still amazes me what it finds over hills etc. even shows highest speed reached. A fun little toy indeed, but just staying within 5mph of the speed limit seems to work best for me.

Laser is shot at your license plate or headlights, not the glass.. many new cars have pointed noses, hidden headlights lights & and no front plates and laser just bounces off em. those cars get a slight advantage. many states don't require a front plate, but calif does of course.

the look on a officers face when he looks befuddled when his laser gun acts funny=priceless.
the Lidatech reacts faster than the laser gun takes to compute the speed thus it can't compute any speed reading. Laser is used in frisco by the bridges here. it won't be long before it's everywhere and i'll certainly be ready =)

Even had one pull me over after his gun went blank after shooting me with it. didn't get any ticket as I was under the speed limit, he just wanted to make sure it wasn't his gun acting up LOL. just need an extra apature for the rear of the car for rear protection. the device is wicked, but expensive too.

Dude, not to be an ass, but 60 mph is 1 mile a minute, so 55 is slightly over a minute and if the cop was traveling towards you at the same speed, that's about half a mile, which is still good, but just saying...

In North Carolina were I got certified, you don't need a radar at all to pace someone we just get about 1/8 mile behind you and get to whatecer speed doens't lose or gain on you. Then we have to pace you for 1/4 mile. That's it. Here in Germany the markers are always 100 meters apart, so with some simple mathematics and a stopwatch, we can figure you average speed over a given distance. Won't get your peak speed but it will get an accurate average.

Here are the rules I would love from everyone when I approach them.

1.) Leave seatbelt on.
2.) Hands on the wheel or dash.
3.) Don't be fumbling around in the car, like looking for paperwork.
4.) Be curtious, give us an attitude and it tends to anger us
5.) If you start crying you aren't going to get out of it, so don't embarrass yourself (mostly for you ladies, but I have had the, "My First Seargent/Supervisor/Commander is gonna kill me." from the guys.)
6.) You can get your info when I approach, believe me we have the time
7.) Cop Jokes are not a good thing at the time you are getting cited
8.) Don't act like you don't know what you are getting pulled over for

Just use some common sense.

Here's a tip: If a cop asks you how fast you were going DON"T tell them, as sometimes we don't get a good read, but we can pull you over for "Speeding beyond conditions" but if you answer with "120" then you just admitted to speeding at a certain speed. Say "I really wasn't paying attention to my speedometer, I was..." Obviously you knew you were speeding, just don't give a specific speed. It's our job to figure that out.

I've had a Passport 8500 for about 3 years now and still love it. It has a ton of features, and a mute button so you can ignore the alarms you already know about.

Remember, the cost of a ticket isn't just the ticket amount, it's the insurance hike that you'll likely get times three years (before it drops off your record).

I never tell them how fast I was going; I tell them I wasn't paying attention like you said, but I also tell them I don't know what i'm getting pulled over for. I don't get all crazy, I just tell them I don't know...they usually inform me pretty quickly after that. Sometimes I actually haven't known, but most of the time I do. I have asked to see the radar...he showed me
