Radar Detectors

the X50 has been tested numerous times by several different professional companies and private testers, and almost all of them have favored the X50 whenever it comes to detection. I picked up a stationary radar detector 2 and a half miles outside a city, and it picked up the cop using a K band behind it (smart little bitch, but not smart enough) about a mile before the stationary. All in all, i don't think the arrows are worth the extra 100 dollars.

I wanted a Passport because I have always owned Escort (Cincinnati Microwave) products and I just assumed that like the Escort was for years the Passport must be the best. I ended up with a Bel instead as a gift and when doing research to justify spending the money on the Passport I found that the Bel I have either meets or beats the Passport as well as the Valentine. I am referring to the 955 model but the only difference between it and the pricier R65 are some convenience features and KU (Europe) sensitivity. The only things one can say are better about the Passport and the Valentine over the Bel is that they give a few less false alarms than do the Bel and the Valentine shows you the direction the threat is coming from. When you can buy two Bels for the price of the Escort one should give Bel some thought. Especially since Escort bought out Bel to get their patents not so long ago. So as to avoid mindless argument I have included links to a variety of different tests and reviews on these radar detectors below. Thank you.

Where is the best place to buy a V1.. who's got the best deal?

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.858 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.

Countermeasures

When you get to the top of the pile, like the V1, x50 and the top Bel, in real world useage, there probably isn't a lot of difference in performance. With these three bad boys, get the one you like, styling (yes, you do look at it a lot), features and price all figure in. They're all great performers. My wife and I both have x50's and couldn't be happier with them. Buy the one you like and can afford. One thing I can tell you from personal experience, the customer service from Escort is terrific.

it doesnt matter because most patrol cars have instant on and will get your speed before you know they are there.
I love it when people answer radar questions with a statement like this. Shows how truly uniformed about the subject they really are. A radar detector is a tool and like any tool you need to know how to use it properly.
