I recently had my 91 5.0 stroked to a 331. It has all the bolt ons as well as a Vortech S-Trim S/C. I'm currently running the stock rad with a Flexalite Extreme Black Magic electric fan. Car idles and runs too hot, which I expected would happen. I need to upgrade my rad to an aluminum one, however there are clearance issues with the blower belt. I was advised to switch to an aluminum rad with a PUSHER electric fan as this would solve my clearance issues. If so, I would remove the a/c condenser and mount the pusher fan there. Has anybody experienced this same thing and if so, what rad/pusher electric fan combos are known to work properly. Thanks.

Any suggestions on which company or model #'s. I see a few out there however some say "only support up to 250 hp, etc. My car is approx. 550 hp. Also, will there be cooling issues due to the puller fan blocking airflow to the rad. Seems this would be a non issue while driving, At idle, the thermostat setting of the electric fan should take care of stop and go driving.

Check out the dual Ramchargers/Y2K Intrepid fan. It *might* flow enough for you and has a nice slim profile. Dual Spals are nice too, but $$.

A pusher fan is a crappy idea for a primary fan IMHO. FWIW, a pusher goes physically in front of a radiator (towards the nose of the car) and blocks more ambient airflow through the coil than a puller fan does (stock is a puller, for E.g.).

Good luck Ian.

I would look into a 94-95 fan. It cools great and has plenty of clearence with a big radiator.

Here is a friends steup that I installed. A 331 with a YSI along with the Summit 31 X 19 radiator and SN95 fan.

Most all electric fans can be either pushers or pullers you should just need to switch the two wires coming from the fan motor and that should reverse the direction. That is if you absolutely have to do it that way.

We had the same issue when adding a supercharger to the car,it ran at 210 with a proform fan & stock radiator.

Here's what to do, get a REAL DSO police clutch fan keep the stock shroud and radiator. The clutch fan is 109.00

this dropped our show car to a consistant 190 deg. even in 95 deg weather going to a show.

If this doesn't cool it down enough toss some 40 below into the radiator this should drop you another 20 deg (approx).

Remember you want it cool but not to cold either.

We have several customers that road race with this combo and it works.sometimes simple solutions are the best.

Tony,
What is a REAL DSO police clutch fan, and where would I order one from. I'm assuming it is installed on police package Mustangs ? Will it bolt onto my crank pulley now that I have the one that came with the Vortec S/C.

HI Ian, We sell them their on back order right now but could probably get them in next week if you wanted one.Yes they were a police issue fan clutch on the service vehicles.

Yes it will bolt right to your water pump and attach right to your stock 9 blade fan,we run a 10PSI Vortech in our show car. Also unlike the origional clutch fans they are less power robbing.

How can they be less power robbing but spin the fan faster?

I have one on my car and indeed they do work, but you sacrifice some fan noise and horsepower because of the increased resistance the Police clutch has.

I still think nothing beats a good electric fan/alum radiator setup. RonDavis sells VERY nice setups that are well engineered!

If you are having clearance issues I would suggest a dual fan setup like the dual spal. The smaller fans aren't as tall and work just as well.

Actually you can make the fans turn the opposite way, but it would not turn it into a Pusher as the Blades are made to be rotated a specific way. A Pusher fan needs to be mounted on the Fwd Side of the Radiator to Push air through.

Didnt Ramchargers go out of business, can you still get the dual fan set up?

Shaker, there is supposedly one guy who has all their remaining fans, but it's not something I've researched.

I'd angle for a set of '00+ fans from a J/Y car (IIRC, the earlier fans had issues, which was a reason for the redesign for the ~'99 model year).

Thanks, I will have to check out the J/Ys for a 00-04 Dodge and see what kind of price tag they have.
