I have a electric fan now on my car so i dont have a overflow. Can I just put a vaccum cap on the radiator where the overflow use to come out by the cap?

Yeah, I put a vacuum cap over the little outlet on my Griffin radiator and it works perfectly fine for me.

I just kept my overflow tube on and had it pointing toward the ground...it seems to work fine. I have a griffin radiator as well...

You really should have a container there. If you set it up like the factory one (recovery) your coolant will expand and contract to make sure your radiator is always full. If you run nothing (or overflow tank), it will eventually drain coolant out of the radiator. If you run a cap -- I would guess you will just build and build pressure until something bursts.

What Adam said is what I was thinking. Eventually the cap opens and blows the vac cap across the engine bay, right? Seems so. I would at least just put a vent hose to the ground (a la original Mustangs with no reservoir). But even those 8 dollar plastic reserviors that parts stores sell work. Or get a generic catch can for 20 bucks and toss it somewhere.

I brought one from Kragen. I have it mounted were the charcol canister used to be. It's gonna have to come up soon because some turbo piping will be in the same spot.

You dont have to have a reservoir with any radiator in a conventional cooling system (Degas systems, etc excluded). The thing is that for many folks, the aftermarket radiator they get has enough capacity that they dont necessarily need the reservoir. With a stock system you dont need it either, but since the system is open (instead of closed or self contained), it does require periodic checking. I would not run w/o a reservoir. But in many milder climates, folks do it just fine.

The fluid expands and has to go somewhere. With no reservoir, it goes onto the ground. Then when the system cools, there is no reservoir to draw upon to replenish (top off) the radiator's level. That is what Adam was getting at.

Don't get me wrong...I want a overflow tank for better overall cooling ability but I just am to lazy/poor right now to get something

Here is what I used for a while. $6.99 at Pepboys. Worked just fine.

Even a plastic soda bottle with a hose dunked in will work fine as a catch can. Only the race/show ones are pretty and fancy.

Next time you have a soda, put some tie straps on the bottle and make due until you have the money for a polished aluminum.

I was kinda wondering about the pressure when i put that cap on. Im just gona run a hose into the driver fender into a pop bottle for now.
