Maybe im thinking of something else but i thought you could take a head off a ranger that had more hp the the 89 lx and put it on as a direct swap. just looked through the search and couldnt find anything on it.
Well, every ranger from '89-on had the dual plug head.
The dual plug head will will swap over onto an older 2.3, up until the Ranger stopped using the old Lima-based engine. I'm not sure what year that was.
Oh, and it wouldn't make much of a difference in horsepower, although the dual plug head is supposed to flow a bit better.
Well.... since someone else brought it up, I have to ask for more info...
I have a head from a 94 Ranger sitting on a spare block at home.
The cam in my n/a 2.3 is pretty wiped out, so I'm sure a fresh roller cam would produce a gain.
What are the challenges?
Can one of the spark plugs be plugged? Maybe rig a second plug wire off the cap?
I don't have a TB from the Ranger, but that will be easy enough to get...
I guess I'm asking because it seems pretty straight forward, and I already have most of the parts
