I've done two installs for locals here where they came to me with the place they wanted to try putting them. Neither of which I have pictures.

One wanted it in the drivers side vent to the left of the steering wheel (it fit there easily)

The other was mounted to the top of the gauge cluster upside down where the volt, oil, fuel and water temp gauges reside. That was a little more involved because I was anal about how the wiring needed to route so it didn't look ghetto in there. I like that spot better than the vent as you get hit direct by the light. From the vent on an angle it didn't grab attention very well.

All the others I've done, including my own have ben put on the pillar.

Mine is on the pillar. It's just easier and looks great IMHO. I just attach it using Velcro pads.

The vent to the left of the wheel pops out very easily and a very short part of the ducting comes out with it, as it is attached to it.. Drill your wiring pilot hole in that so you don't have to work up inside the dash with a drill.
