ratteling!!! just installed pypes O/R X pipe

i have magnaflow magna packs cat back system on my 05 GT i installed the system like the instructions said but for some reason theres a real bad ratteling when im in a high gear at low rpm. i put about 60 miles on the car since the install of the pipe and i check today for any leaks at all the connection points and theres no black residue any where. and i also removed the small tubular brace that is between the mid pipe and the drive shaft joint because there wasnt much clearance between that or the pipes and it made no difference and the ratteling sounds like its on the passengers side near the manifold. this is really pissing me off and im ready to go back to stock setup. if anyone knows whats going on please let me know! thanks!

I see you checked for leaks, but being you hear it up near the manifold, did you check and see if everything was still tight or not? Other than that I've got nothing

Things need to be pretty tight. I would also check at the manifolds again. Also check to make sure all O2 sensors are tight, as that could be your rattle and exhaust leak.

I had to tweek my pypes offroad x pipes' hangers, where it mounts to the trans crossmember. They were hitting the metal casings around the isolators. Nothing a prybar and a torch couldn't fix though.

Funny, I'm having the same exact problem....i've been under the car several times and removed re'installed it again and same issue....if I listen closely it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side near the trans. tunnel. I was going to put the stock hpipe back on today now that i found somebody with the same issue I'll wait for a week or so I'll crawl under again today and just give it one last go over. Problem with mine isn't not a consistent rattle and even does it at idle or any gear.

Mine sounds the same way too. The X-pipes have a ratteling sound that I thinkis just the way that the pipes sound. It is buggingh the hell out of me. I think I may switch to an H pipe because of this.

+1, mine made a really bad noise/vibration at low rpm. It turned out that the rubber bushing doesn't keep the hanger from touching the metal bracket. I trimmed the bracket on mine with the cutting wheel attachment on my dremel although the blowtorch sounds like a lot more fun!

i think i found a solution. The picture isnt the best either is the welding but i need some time on the lift to TIG it up. It turns out the passenger side hanger was pushed up next to the metal insulator so instead of tweaking the exhaust i cut the hanger as close to the pipe as i could and set it to where it should be and re welded it. It sounds alot better and theres no more ratteling. This is very important..... i smell exhaust fumes inside the car when the windows are close and i get a wiff when the A/C is on. when shaved the antenna hole on the fender i forgot to seal off the hole in the firewall where the antenna cable goes through and the cabin filter is right above the hole. this doesnt make sense becasue there are no leakes in the exhaust. or could it be coming in from the rear of the car?? help i really dont need carbon monoxide in my car>

mmm....good call...i'll check mine out tomorrow, I noticed that it's not center on the on the rubber bushing deal.

That picture (1966s-197) shows exactly where my problem was, the only difference is that my hanger slid in further and because if the 90 degree bend, the hanger was up against the metal sleeve around the rubber grommett. I hope that makes some kind of sense. If any of you are getting a vibration at low rpm's after replacing the H-pipe then I would check this out, it is easy to fix with a little trimming.

Duh, I just realized what you actually did, you apparently had the same problem as mine but fixed it differently. I don't have a welder so I went the other route and hacked up the bracket, it worked anyway.

Yep, mine is hitting the bracket for the hanger...thanks guys! Just made me feel like a real idiot for not being able to find something so simple

Good job tracking it down! I'm going to be installing mine this weekend, so I'll make sure to look for this problem and trim if necessary.
