Hi everyone,

I just took my 09 Mustang GT into the Ford dealership to see why my car was making the noise. It only happens when I take off in first gear at low rpms and it doesn't matter if the car is cold or warmed up. It doesn't do it in any other gear or in neutral. They said it could either be clutch rattle or a trans bearing. The only mods I have are borla s-type exhaust tips and a K&N CAI.

Does anyone else have this problem or know what it could be?

Who is "they"?

Did "they" return it to you without fixing the problem?

Is the car there now? If so, ummm.... They're standing right in front of it (or under it). Sooo...

Have you looked under the car? Tapped on everything (including Cat heat shields) visible with a screw driver handle?

"They" are the Ford dealership. Yes they looked at it and no they did not fix it yet because I wanted to get some more opinions before I had anything replaced. They said the tranny ($3200) needs to be replaced and the clutch ($900).

Yikes.

But they didn't tell you exactly what's making the noise...

Try getting up under there yourself and shaking rattling and rolling. If you have access to a body lift anywhere, maybe a buddy can help you duplicate the vibration while you're near or under it.

I have a hunch that it's what I mentioned above. My wild ass guess (WAG) would be catalytic converter heat shield(s). My second WAG would be to look at all the tranny mounts and ensure that it's not coming in contact with the body when the engine torques.
