Rattling Noise WTF

I know this is kind of vague, but atleast If I could get some ideas what's causing it, then maybe I can find the problem. I noticed that when I accelerate, there is a rattling sound coming from the dashboard area. I first noticed it when I was at the track a month ago. While getting towards the end of the 1/4 mile and still accelerating in third gear, I noticed this rattling. It sounded like something was loose, kind of like the marble that shakes inside of a spray paint can. It went away and I couldn't get it to do it again until yesterday. Its not really loud, but enough if I have the radio off that I can hear it. Any ideas WTF is causing it? I am getting my catback system installed today, so If you can all point me in the right direction, I could have ford look at it. I am using the right octane (87) like the manual says, and my car is pretty much stock.

Sounds like a hint of detonation up top. Put in some 91 or 93 and see if it goes away.

Unless you have your timing advanced it should not be pinging at all. If putting some 91 in it clears it up then try cleaning your MAF, changing plugs and fuel filter.

If putting 91 in the tank does not alleviate the problem then it might be something else, though detonation is a very distinct sound just like you described.

mine does that i thought it was the clutch cause it only happens when i hit the gas and the clutch pedal is released

j/k try some mid grade gas and see if it goes away...

I'm going to take a different angle on this one: is it coming from the dash area itself or does it sound like it is coming from the drivetrain area? I know that when I have the radio off I hear the dash vents above the radio control rattle a little bit. It's not that loud but it can be heard when there's some sort of vibration going on. Next time you hear it, touch the vents and see if it quits. If you still have a warranty get the new ones under a TSB. Apparently Ford revised them and they will not rattle. Unfortunately my warranty ran out.
